interesting subject- I think discremination is a huge deal and shouldn't happen, but for the safety of the other soldiers and Marines( there is a difference) it makes sense. And they will send you to jail in the military if they find out that you are having/had an affair

May I cross-link my earlier comment, since General Pace has been mentioned in this and previous contexts elsewhere?

Pace, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a 1967 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy

I wanna hear what the Rear Admiral has to say about this.

What about "rum, sodomy, and the lash"?

Well, it's still my favourite Pogues album.

Richard noted that General Pace graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and, given that the topic of the thread is homosexuality in the services, recalled the response commonly attributed to Winston Churchill when told that "naval tradition" wouldn't permit changes he proposed: "Don't talk to me about naval tradition. It's nothing but rum, sodomy, and the lash".

The mis-attribution is confirmed at http://www.winstonchurchill.org/i4a/pag ... pageid=112 on a page labelled "These quotes make for good story-telling but popular myth has falsely attributed them to Churchill".

I have it in mind, though I can't find reference anywhere, that one of his books uses a phrase that agrees with the notion but not even slightly with the wording. If I find what it is I'll put it into the thread later. It's why I said he'd been paraphrased. Who knows, I might be wrong about that bit.
