Christmas with the bomb squad
Christmas with the bomb squad
it was a few days before Christmas...just after 9/11....our dept. was on high alert, as were all LE agencies. no civilian could enter the jail foyer or sheriff offices without being wanded and patted down. no packages could be delivered. the jail deputies couldn't even get pizza delivered. in this atmosphere a container was seen sitting on a bench outside the jail doors. the LT. called out the bomb squad. Rte. 1, the main road adjacent to our complex was shut down. the courthouse was evacuated. our helicopter went up. all inmates in the jail locked down. civilian employees were removed from sheriff offices. after much debate it was decided to blow up the container. .........and they did..................................................................................................................well, THERE WERE COOKIE CRUMBS EVERYWHERE!!! it was a tin of Christmas cookies!! ...yep, we laughed for a month!!
