Speak up or ignore?

Post by buttercup »

Good question pinks, the answer depends on the person, if they really upset me or made me mad i would p.m them, if that dident get me anywhere i would put them on ignore & yes i think its often obvious when not in ignore mode (who likes / dislikes each other)

What i do object most too is bringing up things on the board that could be sorted in p.m's, that pisses me right off

If you chose the first one, do you think it would start to look a bit obvious after a while that you take exception to that person?

Personally, if someone constantly annoyed me, I'd just press ignore.

From one big mouth to another;) ..speak to them first . Then ignore if your still not happy.:)

I may have ignored someone for a while if they've 'hacked me off', but I've never put anyone on IGNORE......a) I'm too nosy and want to know what's going on, and b) I can't hold grudges and like to get back to 'normal' ASAP. Having said that, I guess I tread a middle line here most of the time (yep...sit on the fence :D ) so I don't get too riled up and no one has really targeted me...now if they had, I guess I would just 'let rip' , but ignore, no.

Good topic Pinks....how would you handle this kind of situation in real life though ?

I agree with Pinky 100%

There is a certain eticate to follow, remember it just SEEMS like we all live in the same house, and that we may get feeling comfortable on just blurting something out. No need to crucify anyone just pm them and then move on.:)

'Pends on how much the psots offend my sensibilities. I'm not a great one for PMs,

and to criticise publically very often brings unwanted (and unwarranted!) reaction.

Irritations like ghastly .sigs and avatars are (fortunately) easy to deal with, and

there's "ignore" for appropriate occasions, although using it is slightly reminiscent

of the legendary behaviour of the Ostrich when endangered!

Tell them about it! Not by PM, either, and not nastily, in the first place.

I don't know what using ignore is like here Pinky

but my experience in other forums is that the person I put on ignore, their post didn't show but it would announce that it was posted by the person. And I found that the continuity of the thread was gone, so I would choose to ignore by scrolling by. Awkward situation in any method.

I've no idea! I've never seen your .sig! Would people who use the 'net at work

find it a problem (ditto for "avatars")?

I guess it depends on the situation and what was said. Overall, I think people are way too PC resulting in wish-wash and oversensitivity. Ideally, the classiest way would be in my opinion to PM them. But if they're basically calling you out publically, I feel it's appropriate to return the favor. There are exceptions to both, of course. I've never used Ignore...what's the point when people are always quoting everything said and you see it anyway? I'd prefer to know what's being said even if it comes from a jerk. :)

I have pm'd people before now to sort things out, but if someone snipes at me on the boards, thetemptation is to defend yourself in the same way.

BTW - Bill, sorry if my garish sig offends your sensibilities, lol!:wah:

Members leave due to this kind of thing & if they dont it causes bad feeling on the board, anybody with anything to say, do it today, do it in p.m & leave the rest of us out of it :-6

Who's having a go at you pinks? p.m me :sneaky:

I find it's easier on everyone's nerves to just put them physically on ignore... these people generally write nothing I want to read anyway. Let them snipe to their heart's content... you don't see it and can't get annoyed enough to respond and they end up looking more like a dumbass.

Hey Snooze

You're definitely are not snoozin' and what's with the kitty kat......I got you a tiger and.....well fierce:wah::wah: :wah:

I'm ignoring two people right now. It's nice. Not reading their posts is like kicking a habit - hard at first but then it gets easier. Besides, enough people quote them so I can remember why I put them on ignore.

This thread reminds me of an ignore-a-thon we had going almost 2 years ago. I won't mention any names because I don't want to embarass Saffron, but there was a poster (to remain nameless) that must have had 6 or 8 of us on ignore by the end of it all. :wah:

I have learned to speak up about it, if something bother me of I find some things offensive.
