Stepping Up To The Line
I wonder if the Saggy Baggy Elephant had eaten butter or even worse, bacon fat, whether he'd have turned out like Snooze's friend of the mindblowingly generous posterior - well rounded and well filled, rather than saggy and baggy. Just wondering, as one does upon waking to the screech of sulphur crested cockatoos.

spot wrote: Let's see now, how many apologies have I pending in this thread? Pinky's peeved, Clancy and Snooze are miffed, Flopstock's less than happy, both Cher and Buster are tapping their feet with their canines bared, and valerie's frustrated with me. "Ponder the comments", I'm told, "You're too cold and calculating", "You've always got to try and one-up with people", "How 'bout trying a 2 word post some day? I'M SORRY", I'm "socially inept" online. This distresses me all the more in that the only person here with a legitimate grudge against me is Trixy, against whom I have offended shockingly but who would, I'm quite certain, be more upset at an apology from me than anything else.
Val, you are what judges in England refer to in rare circumstances as a fragrant woman. It's quite true that I was to an extent responsible for the assault on you, it's true that the assault was both unwarranted and undeserved, and I do both apologise for my involvement in it and regret that it occurred in the first place.
Snooze, your losing patience with me has been entirely understandable. You look for solidarity from those who would like to be your friend. That, to my mind, has always required at least an initial consensus on the issues concerned rather than a falling into line after the event. It's unfortunate that you've been in the firing-line quite so often of late, and that my desire to shock alighted on such ideal raw material when I challenged site policy recently.
Arnold and Clancy, in the very likely event that I again employ ill-advised phrasing with an intent to make my case look more robust than it is, I hope you'll point out the error of my ways once more. Unlike my rocky relationships with these intemperate, irrational and flighty women I feel quite secure in your continued affections.
cherandbuster and Pinky will by now have recognised my flawed nature and shaken their heads in despair. While failing to warrant their good graces I shall at least attempt in future to bear in mind their opinion and to tone down my potential wickedness accordingly.
Flopstock? I think you're wonderful. If I had medals to award your chest would be overflowing. Take a day out and relax, shake your head in the fresh air and go skinny-dipping or something. You mustn't let events take over to the extent that you can't focus on anything else. You've been a pillar, but if you let go for a bit none of it will fall apart.
"I was amazed that anyone took what I wrote for an apology, [deleted]. I tailored as many finely honed insults into that half-screen as I could fit. I do hope that at least Paul squirmed when he saw it."
you know spot, there's an old saying - you can fool all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.
your currency here is rapidly devaluing. for someone who pleads in the finest british tones that we not label others "trolls", you're doing a damnably fine job of actually being one.
it's time for the silly debate forum to be put to rest (as it is moribund anyway), so that the rest of us will be able to put spot on ignore. he does not deserve this 'special' privilege by proxy.

What do you have to say about this quote?
I was really disappointed to read it. In both places. You know what I mean.

What I had in mind was the 1987 trial of the Daily Star for libel, in which "There was also widespread astonishment caused by the description by the judge (Mr Justice Caulfield) of Mrs Archer in his summing up: "Remember Mary Archer in the witness-box. Your vision of her probably will never disappear. Has she elegance? Has she fragrance? Would she have, without the strain of this trial, radiance? How would she appeal? Has she had a happy married life? Has she been able to enjoy, rather than endure, her husband Jeffrey?" The judge then went on to say of Jeffrey Archer: "Is he in need of cold, unloving, rubber-insulated sex in a seedy hotel round about quarter to one on a Tuesday morning after an evening at the Caprice?". I thought the oblique reference might amuse you, but perhaps you didn't bother looking up the details.
"it's time for the silly debate forum to be put to rest", on a thread that was within hours of dropping off the "current" thread list, speaks more for your determination to attempt to pick a fight than for your preference for a quiet life. By all means use the ignore facility, I recommend it to you wholeheartedly. It might stop you from picking at your scabs on the sidelines and entice you back into a genuinely fraternal presence here.

once again, the ever lovely 'put it to rest'. while you merrily laugh at your fellow forumgardeners on another forum for being so simple-minded and gullible as to believe you had actually posted an apology.
you're a blackguard. your continual sanctimonious pleas that we all take the higher ground, while snickering 'behind our backs' shows you to be a very troubled person. While i have great sympathy for the mentally ill, i have zero desire to engage them. you have the intellect and guile to mask your moral decrepitude with terrific facility.
but the bottom line is that you've shown unadulterated, pure contempt for your fellow forumgardeners here. in ignominious glory. there is no way to squirm out of it - you tendered no apology; you laugh at those who chose to trust that your motives were sincere; you continue to attempt to deflect your inherently evil sensibilities by suggesting my not 'putting it to rest' is somehow more immoral than the lie of your apology.
i pity you.

I was indeed unable to fit more than four finely honed insults into that half-screen, it was so full of apology. The presence of the insults scarcely detracts from the remaining content. I was, as I said elsewhere, amazed that anyone took what I wrote for an apology, since I thought in retrospect that the presence of the insults might have dampened the intended overall apologetic intent. My amazement was that it didn't.

for the record, i have formally requested of tombstone that the westcliff debating forum be dismantled, or at minimum spot's moderator privileges be revoked, so that we may have the choice to put spot on ignore if we wish.

You can't have it both ways, palI do hope you go and read the thread there, Cher. It's an analysis of the attack on Abbey and my criticism of the poster who did it.
Try re-reading "I was amazed that anyone took what I wrote for an apology" - it doesn't say it wasn't an apology, it says that I was surprised that it was accepted as one. If you think it means anything else then do tell me why and I can understand your position better.

a sincere apology does not contain insults, finely honed or otherwise. period.
be careful your trousers don't fall down - this much wiggling and squirming may pop a button or three.

a sincere apology is also not written so deviously that the author himself doubts it would be accepted as sincere. it belies the true intent: mockery, not apology.

Go on, you must have read the apology as closely as anyone - was it an apology or not? Did I "tender no apology" as claimed?

I wonder why? Perhaps your credibility with her is equal to your credibility with many of us?

People who manipulate others for their own pleasure are one thing....people who BOAST of those manipulations for the amusement of their peers are quite another. I realize you'll bristle at being compared to some of the juvenile minds on RR, Spot, but they are your peers.
Like many here, I read the thread at the RR site. It was like watching maggots...I couldn't turn away, disgusting and hurtful as it was.
I am ashamed of you.

I'll have a t-shirt printed, "Forum Gardeners say I'm incredible", how's that?

It's easy to fool honest people. Perhaps it's even amusing..it undoubtedly boosts needy egos.

I've just told Cher...I'm going to stop now. I don't want to see the level of this thread turn into something Spot can cheerfully report at his "home" site (for the delight of his juvenile buddies,) and I don't want to be part of a blatant war here.
Anyone with a theasaurus can create the posts he does...he fits in better at RR.
Be careful not to give him any more satisfaction friends!
Now...I'm off to update my IGNORE thread.....

Please, allow me to interject here.
Based on my experiance on being an IRCop for a number of years, I have come to realise that the Internet, as in real life, can be a nasty, unsavory place. Unfortunately, this tends to go hand in hand with freedom of speech. When one person thinks that something they say is in-offensive, then quite often and indeed is often the case, other people find offensive.
I feel that freedom of speechis what makes the internet the great place that it is. I think that to enjoy the net, you have to realise that things can be said out of place, slander can be slung and insults fly. Just like real life.
And, just like real life, there are ways to deal with these things: ignore the offenders, report them or sling the mud right back at them. In my experience, a combination of the first two usually works, but the last one nearly allways leads to more heart ache and genuine hurt being done and often leads to a total breakdown of relations and organisations.
Just like I honestly think could happen to FG.
I've seen it happen before, and sadly, I have no doubt I will see it happen again. Come on people, I know that people have been emotionally hurt, but, unless you want this beautifull place, FG, to fall apart and, on a more personal level, the same thing to happen, then I urge you all to consider what I have said and try and work things out.
Be strong.....and remember....
