Let's see now, how many apologies have I pending in this thread? Pinky's peeved, Clancy and Snooze are miffed, Flopstock's less than happy, both Cher and Buster are tapping their feet with their canines bared, and valerie's frustrated with me. "Ponder the comments", I'm told, "You're too cold and calculating", "You've always got to try and one-up with people", "How 'bout trying a 2 word post some day? I'M SORRY", I'm "socially inept" online. This distresses me all the more in that the only person here with a legitimate grudge against me is Trixy, against whom I have offended shockingly but who would, I'm quite certain, be more upset at an apology from me than anything else.

Val, you are what judges in England refer to in rare circumstances as a fragrant woman. It's quite true that I was to an extent responsible for the assault on you, it's true that the assault was both unwarranted and undeserved, and I do both apologise for my involvement in it and regret that it occurred in the first place.

Snooze, your losing patience with me has been entirely understandable. You look for solidarity from those who would like to be your friend. That, to my mind, has always required at least an initial consensus on the issues concerned rather than a falling into line after the event. It's unfortunate that you've been in the firing-line quite so often of late, and that my desire to shock alighted on such ideal raw material when I challenged site policy recently.

Arnold and Clancy, in the very likely event that I again employ ill-advised phrasing with an intent to make my case look more robust than it is, I hope you'll point out the error of my ways once more. Unlike my rocky relationships with these intemperate, irrational and flighty women I feel quite secure in your continued affections.

cherandbuster and Pinky will by now have recognised my flawed nature and shaken their heads in despair. While failing to warrant their good graces I shall at least attempt in future to bear in mind their opinion and to tone down my potential wickedness accordingly.

Flopstock? I think you're wonderful. If I had medals to award your chest would be overflowing. Take a day out and relax, shake your head in the fresh air and go skinny-dipping or something. You mustn't let events take over to the extent that you can't focus on anything else. You've been a pillar, but if you let go for a bit none of it will fall apart.

I'm in two minds about that. Giggle.

As fer the Chilean elephant ..................... I think I may lose sleep over his aural extravagance. Does it disprove the theological argument from design???? And what can all that possibly add to the debate about butter anyway???

If you butter their ears, Chilean elephants can hear better....as long as the butter's at room temperature.
