Ah, the economy, the elegance... six thousand nine hundred and eighty six years[1] of day-in day-out practice went into that. It's a joy to see a professional at work.

Cher, you, Floppy, Pinky and I did stand up quite definitely to be counted in this. With Val and Clancy and Snooze and Nomad. I am very glad to see at least Val and Clancy posting again. I'll wait in hope to see Nomad and Snooze again soon. I guess we all support our family in our own individual ways - and some of us maybe do it a bit too enthusiastically at times. But at least our hearts are in the right place and what you see is what you get.

Then, dear friends, let us learn what we can from this....hug one another, rejoice in our friendship and move on!

But, I did learn something about the 'art' of trolling from all of this. And I probably would not have learned it if I'd been paying attention from the beginning and gotten caught up in it from the gitgo.

Hey Floppy
Snooze was in here earlier. I think she started a thread and I think it was titled Snooze, no Brief Sales. I saw it and several people greeted her. Cross me 'eart.

I haven't seen Snooze, but that's good news Weber!! Yes, Floppy - I learned a few things too, not just about trolls. I learned that I very much prefer the honest guy wielding a bludgeon to the smiling poisoner. Though of course the latter isn't ever going to be tossed into any sin bin. Grin.
This is off subject - but I hadta tell you Guys. I was walking by the ocean yesterday and I stumbled over a beached sea snake. It was so beautiful - yellow underbelly, shining teal back and brown and white striped end of its tail. Still alive too. I managed to get it back in the water. Hope it doesn't bite anyone any time soon. Gotta google the description to see what it was. Watch this space!!!

Ah Snooze, it's so good to see you. I'm still royally p'd off about everything that happened, including several of my dearest friends being hounded out of here. I feel guilty as heck too, over sending the French stuff - and sent myself off to the sin bin as well, in solidarity. I've said it before - but hey, I feel mostly invisible... gimme the honest person who says what they think even if at times it's calling a spade a bloody shovel, rather than some of the more subtle but usually much nastier alternatives. I hope all the dust settles and we can go back to seeing some of the old familiar and much missed faces in here again regularly, as well as the good friends who have hung in here somehow. Sure we've acquired loads of new people, and sure many of these are really nice and I look forward to getting to know them better - but it's come at a heavy price if we've lost all the old ForumGarden flavour.
And it was a yellow bellied sea snake. Beautiful but deadly. Sigh.

AussiePam...you were brave to handle that snake! I'd've been extremely cautious, myself. You all have more than your fair share of venomous snakes, don't you?

I still fail to see how removing a letter from a poster's name and inferring they smell like sulfur is a punishable offense. And posting someone's PMs which I've heard is against the TOS, is not.
As Clancy has eloquently said many, MANY times, it's interesting watching people pile on those threads, almost joyously joining in while claiming they just want peace and harmony in the garden. QUOTE]

Since I joined the meltdowns have generaly had a common cause.
Now that that cause is no longer present, maybe, just maybe, we can settle down?

CLANCY! Not only an articulate expression of what occurred here, but an articulate expression of friendship.
I know CRAP when I step in it, too! And I can recognize an attack by trolls, just as easily. Please remember that their intention was to cause trouble. And, sorry to say, we all LET THEM DO IT!
It's obvious that some members aren't going to agree or (heaven forbid) admit that they might've been less supportive of FG than they might've. And obvious, too, that some of us don't care to DEAL with troll attacks when they happen. Some folks just don't deal well with conflict, and trolls depend on that!
Others will face confrontation "up front" and risk being considered "negative." It's a fine line, so to speak, between the two.
Let's please mend our fences and agree to face the (inevitable) invasions differently next time. We know they're out there....let's plan ahead.

See this intrigues me - is every newbie considered a troll until they prove themselves otherwise???
You've gained some strong personalities on this forum recently, some very creative, inspiring and wonderful people and they are people I'm proud to call my friends....and I hope to make some new ones here.
I'm from RR (yes) and they told me about this place - it's a refreshing change and I hope to regain some of my creativity which was sucked out of me over there *points* but it taught me one thing - call bullshit, and speak your mind...running with the pack and patting each other on the back because 98% of the population agree with them is not the way to go, and If I speak honestly (which I always do) I see alot of that happening here.

Perhaps. Or perhaps, as a "newbie" it'd be wise to wait until you really see what's happend here before you judge? just a suggestion....

You'll find that we disagree agreeably and are genuine friends for the most part. The "98%" you see is the way it tends to go here. We agree vocally; often disagree or stay neutral quietly.
Just don't assume hypocrisy.

.If, old man, "if". "If the Famous Five want to lick their wounds that's entirely up to them". It was a reference to the voluntary self-withdrawal. It seemed a fair description of what happened, in the absence of any explanation at the time.
As for the rest of the post, yes. Not a word there I'd disagree with. You see me as standing up for a friend regardless, I'd describe it more as standing up for someone who had nobody else supporting her. That has its amusing side to it in that I did just the same a while back on the other site and got savaged for it in just the same way. Poor sky, I wonder where she is now?
If I might make an observation on trolls in general - can we perhaps utterly and consciously refuse to use the label on ForumGarden, ever again, regardless of provocation? It's inflammatory, it's never helpful. I've spent most of my time online as a pariah with a "Troll" sign hung round my neck, and it's rarely been warranted. I've likened it to the medieval accusation of "she's a witch!" and that strikes me as a fair description of how it gets used. It's stone-throwing, not argument.

++++++++++Nope! A troll IS a troll, and unless you'd like to drag out your thesaurus and come up with synonyms...I'll call a troll a troll when/if I see one. It IS helpful, when alerting/identifying the group and the activity.
It's ridiculous to deny what's happening if someone decides to attack a kindly board and cause trouble...let ALONE bringing in argumentative "friends/alter egos" to stir the pot. (No, I'm not trying to bring up more trouble...I'm merely saying that denying the term doesn't help...it is what it is.)
I realize you felt compelled to defend certain people recently.....but they WERE trolls and I won't try to use a euphemism just because you're not comfy with the term.
Sorry.

edit: and less irritatingGood lord, why can nobody recognise a conditional sentence this evening? The "If" at the beginning says that, should it be the case that this voluntary time-out being taken involves any licking of wounds, that's their own affair and not something being imposed on them. That's three times I've had to explain the sentence, and it's no different now to how it was the first time. The "If" is the key to its fairness.
