I cannot stay long, I need to get to work early. But just for the record, I have a Muslim friend (male). I know they are very tolerant, but as a woman, I will not agree with much of what Islam teaches and it's culture and how the women are oppressed.

What I think is even worse about them (Muslim women and girls) is that they to not even realize how oppressed they are, as that is all they have ever known. for thousands of years they have been treated as 2nd class citizens. And the accept it.

So before I get on a slippery slope, I'll leave.

 :driving:

P.S. They look like crazy uncivilized animals on the U.S. media.

Saffron, you're obviously a type first, think later poster. I doubt it will do good because you've got your defensive wall up by the time you've read this far, but here goes.

It's obvious to me that you have your categories, little cubby holes, you like to assign people to and I'm sure you've got me slotted away in one of 'em. It's normal and natural. Everybody does it - easier on the brain. The problem is, yours are full of overwhelmingly negative stereotypes. And you don't even realize it. The biggest hipocrisy was when you called the guy two-faced because of his actions toward Muslims.

Go back and read your posts with an open mind and you'll see what I mean. Your stereotypes are almost all negative until you actually meet a person ... then that person is an exception to your rule. I urge you to adjust your rules. Think of all the Mexicans, or whatever, you know personally. Use that as a stereotype. Then when you meet individuals who fall below that, that person's poor behavior can be the exception to the rule.

I truly don't expect this to affect your thinking in any way, but it may help someone.

Your welcome, I"m glad someone looked at it. I too think sometimes you have to go search for a source other than the media to get the facts.

Why would any sane person, man or woman, allow themselves to be part of a huge cult like Islam? Other than the fact that men are allowed to have up to 4 wives (and wealthy Sheiks in Saudi have many more), I'd not want to be involved in a religion that allows that. And that is only one reason.

Yeah Christianity was never a cult huh?

As for four wives, sounds a bit like Mormons, or is it ok for them to have lots of wives?

From what I know about Islam, it sounds as if it is a cult.

And I also think that Mormonism is a cult.

I have a job and also go to college full-time. It isn't a "loss" for me to not read more about Muslims. It would make more sense for me to read my college texts and do the assignments that I have due YESTERDAY! Rather than read about a bunch of crazies.

And yet here you sit, debating a topic you don't care to learn about. I'm probably the most stubborn-minded person here and I've been trying to learn more about something I don't know about.

Frankly, I think your assessment about Muslims and Mormons could be spot on. The point is, I don't know. And I want to learn.

And the crazies part.....is that the Muslims or us in FG? :yh_bigsmi

I was listening to Michael Medved yesterday (national talk radio show). He was talking to a Muslim representative of some type about the riots.

Apparently the problem was that it depicted the Prophet Mohammed, regardless of the light in which it depicted him. When Medved pointed out that Arab papers routinely publish cartoons showing Jews as vampires and other cruelties, the Muslim pointed out that the cartoon characters were anonymous Jews, not Moses or Jesus. Apparently that's what crossed the line. If the paper had published some Omar beheading a baby, that would have gotten less of a reaction.

Go figure.

Acccountable didn't mean to insult you. It's just that when you enter into a debate, it's better to go in with a mindset to learn something while arguing your point. If you refuse to look at other people's answers then you are not truely debating. You are preaching (for lack of better word).

I guess any Muslims on this board may just well be thinking the same thing.

You know, before you go making sweeping generalisations of an entire faith based on a few choice tidbits you read in the Enquirer or maybe 60 Minutes, it does help if you research an argument.

That way you would be firing back on all cylinders without having to come across as, oohh I don't know, say 'crazee'?

I'll tell you now, your ascertaitions are wrong.

Most definately wrong.

But then, by your own admission, you didn't even check the most simple of links provided.

You don't have time to click a button?

To find out if your argument has any validity?

If it's not an argument, then it's just an opinion, and if that really is your opinion, it's misguided and steeped in ignorance.

Now before you accuse me of being offensive:

Ignorance; (n) the state of being without knowledge or information, unawareness

Saffron.....people here like to get into serious discusssions as well as getting involved in the 'fun' side of things. They get a bit frustrated when members 'dive' into topics without any knowledge or without doing a bit of research beforehand. You can't rely on what you read or see in the media...this info. is often skewed. You'll miss a lot if you put everyone that disagrees with you or is trying to put accurate information your way on ignore.

Not sure how I feel about this, just seems like a bad joke, but a joke non the less..!! Do Muslims not have a sense of humor??? Or are we missing the gravity of this not knowing much about muslims, and their faith I just don't understand the need to react in such a manner.

I'm willing to learn why they are so inflamed because of this..:-3

I dunno but I found this link the other day when browsing for information on Islam.

http://www.freemuslims.org/about/

Also I worked with a Muslim doctor. He was a really nice guy and had a great since of humour. We would often talk religion in the wee hours of the night when the ER was dead. He was sending his kids to a Christian school because the public schools were lacking. He seemed a pretty peaceful Muslim.

Islam is nothing more than lies and fairy tails. I don't have to read any part of it to know that, I know the truth, what little I know of Islam does not match with the truth of the Bible.

I know thats not a popular statement but thats what I believe. There is no such thing as allah, and I believe muhammad is a false prophet, a mere man who set up a religion. (their allah is not my God even though they say they are the same, the same God does not teach two different ways to serve him)

That makes it a cult.

And listen to me carefully here cause this is important. If one follows the koran, then they believe the same about christianity and God.

It will be us against them, the two religions are counter, they will not let us live peacefully coexisting in the world. Thats why we clash, thats why we've clashed for 2000 years.

Right now its the radical side of Islam thats showed its violent head, thats our enemy.

I will always live beeing leary of my known enemies (radical Islam) and my potential enemies (the rest of Islam)

Folks keep tossing around percentages of peaceful muslums Ive heard the say 99%...good lord ya'll better think that one out... no way is it that high.

Yes, I know ya'll er gonna jump on me, go ahead.

The only problem I see here with calling them a cult, is then those who do not believe in any sort of higher being can refer to Christians as a cult.

You see my point?

You can't unless we send them to another planet. Not seeing that happen though. What has to happen is that someone of high respect and authority in the Islam faith has to step forward and say that the Jihad they are raisng against the west is wrong. This won't happen because there are those who twist the word around for their personnal reasons and get a popular following. The Taliban can be used for an example.

How does this differ from the Islamic fundamentalist that supports the Jihad but wont fight?

Dunno

And What percentage of peaceful Muslums exist on the earth in contrast to the Milatant Radical Islamic Fundamentalist?

I'm not sure, it would be hard to do an accurate census. However I bet the majority live in regions where they are well off and happy.

Odd logic, but it falls into the definition, of ignorance, once again.
