I did have a very good psychology professor at university who was blunt about the fact that there are inexplicable things that happen in this world.. I like others have had experiences and I resent folks trying to tell me what I experienced after all it was my experience and not theirs.
To be somewhat blunt I was raised in a literalist and fundamentalist church. It was evil and thus I left. What utter nonsense was being preached and believed. I know for a fact there are others as well many others.
The earliest church did not have all of this crap. They knew that Jesus was a ordinary human being who stood for what he believed was right. They new the scriptures were not to be taken literally. They new the scriptures had to be reinterpreted as knowledge increased and time moved on with new understandings. A few ignorant so called scholars then began fundamentalism.
The vast majority of credible Scholars would say it was. So you are wrong. Some Liberal, Anti Christian Scholars like the ones you are proposing try to discredit. One of the criteria for a Book being included in the Biblical Canon at the Council of Nicaea was that it had to be written by eyewitnesses. You say the early Church did't have it? Yes they did, in fact, you can actually recreate the scriptures using quotes from the Early Church Fathers. The Scriptures ARE to be taken literally for what they say. Fundamental Scholars are the ones who know what they are talking about. Not the Non Believing, Liberal so called Scholars who study and yet don't understand basic theology.

Only 1 has ever fulfilled hundreds of prophecies written literally hundreds of years before His birth, performed miracles in front of thousands, including turning water into wine, walking on water, healing the sick, making the blind to see, lame to walk, raising the dead and had eyewitness testimony attesting to it, predicted His own death, burial and resurrection and then died and rose again. Only one has every proved it in front of the world by doing these miracles and fulfilling hundreds of years of prophecy and at the same time as He performed miracles claimed to be God. Big difference. Why don't you get that?

That's the beauty of it all. I do think for myself and I follow the truth in a very ancient book that was inspired by God Himself. You should too.

No need to dream. I have the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Narrow Gate, so that video goes right along with what He said here now doesn't it?
Jesus said:
Mt 7:13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

I wonder who made that up and why?

Jesus did because He is explaining that there is only one way to heaven. HIM. He is the narrow gate. All other ways are the wide gate. Is Jesus right or wrong when He says that?

The odds of someone prophesying the Lottery Result accurately is literally billions to one - yet it happens every week. Not only that, but more often than not the prize has to be shared between many different people because they, too, prophesied it. They are much more extreme outside probabilities & it is something that happens all the time. The Bible has a few vagueries, without so much as a time frame, and there's not even any record of the only reference to it ever having been remotely interpreted as having been chanced upon in existence. The "prophecies" as you put it are nothing more than Creative Horoscope writings. Every day in every tabloid you will see prophecies of things that will be happening to people born within a 1/12 segment of the year. Those who believe in astrology will swear blind that these horoscopes are 100% accurate, and will constantly cite examples that they have interpreted as having the prophecies fulfilled, but ignore the fact that the same prophecy, with some creative interpretation, could also be applied to the other 11/12 as well. Of course, they totally ignore everything which was totally the opposite than predicted.
Jesus is said to have been born in Bethlehem - so why is he known as Jesus of Nazareth? The reason they were in Bethlehem was supposedly for a census where people had to go to their place of birth to be taxed. Why? Where they were born would have no effect on how they paid tax. The Romans would want to know where they were at the time, not where they were born. There is no record of such a census. These event were simply invented to try to fit with prophecies. They are total fiction.

You've got it all wrong, Exfrog.

This theory might be valid if it were just one or two or a few prophecies, but there are a couple hundred prophecies of Jesus first coming that came true and were very specific, not vague like you are asserting. Born in Bethlehem is only one. (By the way, that's why Herod knew where to find Him and it WAS in Bethlehem where He was born, not Nazareth.) When He would be born. (That's how Herod knew when to go after Him, the Biblical Prophecies.) Betrayed for 30 pieces of silver. That He would die. The manner in which He would die. Details of His death and like I said, a couple hundred more.
Link Here: Tenakh/Hebrew Scriptures
The bible was written through 40 men in 3 languages over a 1,500 year period. These men lived in different parts of the world, some were rich, some were poor, some were educated, some were not, most didn't know each other, many of them didn’t have access to the other's writings and yet it fits together as if it were written by one person, because it was inspired by God. It has no true errors or contradictions. There are countless prophecies which have been predicted and fulfilled perfectly in scripture. Many of these prophecies were written hundreds or even thousands of years before they were fulfilled.
The Predictions that Jesus fulfilled in His coming were in the hundreds. The verse on the left is the prediction written hundreds of years before He came and the verse on the right is where it was fulfilled in Jesus Christ’s actual coming hundreds of years later as testified by the actual eyewitnesses. It is impossible that He is not Messiah, Savior of the world. The ONLY person...past, present or future...who could fulfill all these prophecies is Jesus Christ

How can you possibly claim eyewitnesses? Oh, I know, because it's written in the bible, right? Or perhaps the guy who runs the church you go to said so.
Next you're gonna repeat that you have evidence and even scientific proof to what it is you're believing.

Because the Biblical books were written by the eyewitnesses. That's the only way they could be included in the Bible.

The books were written a century or so after the events. And then the stories were copied by hand several times over by various monks and students for generation after generation, for centuries after the events. Many times people doing the copying added their own interpretations into their copies. This has all be documented.

No they weren't. They were all written within the life times of the apostles and eyewitnesses and by the apostles and eyewitnesses. No one changed the Bible. It's been preserved. The Dead Sea Scrolls affirm the preservation of Scripture. They preceded the earliest manuscripts that we had at the time by over 1000 years and yet, there were no real changes, except punctuation differences, spelling differences, ect.

Umm, Dead Sea scrolls have nothing to do with the Gospels, or any of the epistles contained in the New Testament.

perhaps, but you were trying to use the Dead Sea Scrolls to support your argument that the Gospel authors wrote and published the Gospels immediately after the events.
Sorry, but completely unrelated. The first known written text of the gospel writings has been dated to some time in the late Second to early Third Century.
And the Dead Sea Scrolls appear to have been stashed in the Qumran caves around the time of the Roman destruction of Jerusalem around 70 AD.

Seen the video, read the book. That one plays pretty fast and loose with the facts, though. for example, the first criterion listed fails, miserably. The first five books were not written while the people presumed to be their authors were alive. Read the last several posts.
Simple fact. Liberty U was misinformed.

The OT texts were put together during and after the Babylonian exile. They were put together from both oral tradition and earlier writings. Several different sources that is why we have at least 2 creation stories and at least 2 different flood stories. Moses was long dead before the Torah was put together. Check Bart Ehrmann.

You don't know what you are talking about. Yes and they were written by the actual eyewitnesses. That WAS the main criteria!

You don't know what you are talking about. Yes and they were written by the actual eyewitnesses. That WAS the main criteria! They had to be written by an eyewitness and they had to be written by an Apostle. The only exceptions were James and Jude because they were the half brothers of Jesus.

Moses wrote the first 5 books of the Bible aka the Torah. There is only one creation story. The two accounts don't contradict. You need to get away from the Liberal Scholars who ignore the facts so that they can purposely try and discredit the Bible.

Technically, James & Jude would have, at best, ave been Cousins of Jesus.
According to the surviving fragments of the work Exposition of the Sayings of the Lord of the Apostolic Father Papias of Hierapolis, who lived circa 70-163 AD, "Mary the wife of Cleophas or Alphaeus" would be the mother of James the Just, Simon, Judas (identified as Jude the Apostle), and Joseph (Joses). Papias identifies this "Mary" as the sister of Mary, mother of Jesus, and thus as the maternal aunt of Jesus.[31] The Anglican theologian J.B. Lightfoot dismissed Papias' evidence as spurious.[32][33]
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brothers_ ... rs_to_Mary)
Furthermore, Religions refer to EVERYBODY as Brothers.
Your pasted Pahu-esque essay of supposed prophesies is totally meaningless as the very existence of Jesus is in question in the first place. The birthplace would have been Nazareth, not Bethlehem. There was no census. None of the details can be verified except in myth which has been created specifically to try to fulfill some of the so called prophecies, and the rest which are vague interpretations of fulfillment.

I think there is little doubt that Jesus was born in Nazareth. But FourPart is correct often things were written to reflect ancient so called prophesies. Strictly midrash.

It is now believed by scholars that Genesis was one of the later writings from long after Moses had died.

xfrod. That is simply an erroneous statement. The Christian church (fundamentalism) of today is not and does not reflect the church of the apostles. The literal reading is about 200 years old. It is not the church the apostles created. Check your history. I can give you a list of authors if you want. I believe fundamentalism is the curse of present day Christianity. It certainly does not follow the teachings of one Jesus of Nazareth.

Wrong. Fundamentalists actually BELIEVE Jesus and His Word, so I would say that it is the ONLY branch of Christianity that reflects what the Apostles believed. The literal reading is not only 200 years old. It was less popular for a while because the Catholic Church controlled what people believed, except for the underground Church, aka the Ana Baptists. The Apostles didn't create the Church, Jesus Christ did. You can give me all of the Liberal Authors you want. Fundamentalism is the only true Christianity and always has been.
