They're a label. Anyone daft enough to identify with it should be kept a close eye on but I bet there's fewer than would be needed for what you imply they've done.
The label's an excuse for a damn sight more mayhem aimed at their chimerical existence. I bet there's a lot more people self-identifying with the label now than there were before the "liberation", too. What's empowered Al Qaeda? The unforgivable expedient killing and desecrating of Muslim bystanders, that's my best guess.

Go on, go back along the thread and see the context where Al Qaeda was brought in. I posted a link to an article headed "Discussing the motives of the Afghan shooter" and you responded by describing the resistance as Al Qaeda, and now you're bouncing upside down. The lack of thread integrity your posts engender is one of the reasons you induce stress instead of promote conversation.

I'd hope not though there are always examples of appalling manners. Wimbledon crowds pick favourites and go so far as to heckle the other player. On the other hand cricket spectators, though duly aware of the deep and abiding satisfaction that creaming a foreign team brings, invariably applauds good play rather than cheering the home side to the exclusion of all else.
I think though that, on balance, while there might be an extra frisson if the performer trained locally, what matters is the person rather than the national flag when it comes to athletics. I'm quite sure Usain Bolt will receive as rapturous applause in London this year as we ever gave our own athletes like Seb Coe or David Bedford, and the only woman pole vaulter I'm likely to look out for is Russian and an astounding athlete. Personal excellence is the key, not patriotism, and the less probable the contender the more the support they're given wherever they came from - that's especially true in international soccer.
We do have one event which is superficially patriotic, the flag-waving at the Royal Albert Hall on the Last Night of the Proms. That's not what it is at all, in my opinion - it's a huge collective nostalgia binge and one that I'm delighted to see continue. It would be a pitiable participant who thought it was about My Country Right Or Wrong.

The lack of thread integrity your posts engender is one of the reasons you induce stress instead of promote conversation. At no point have I described Afghan shooters as Al Qaeda. At the momet I entered the thread, I said this:
Perhaps your perception would be more credible should you find some stats to show atrocities carried out under the guise of Al Qaeda since Desert Storm and atrocities carried out by US troops during occupation. Maybe then we could see exactly what the percentage Is.
If you refrain from second guessing posts and trying to read between lines, we may progress.
In my subsequent posts, I have stated that I accept the Taliban as Resistance to foreign occupation.
However, In reply to your Insistence that the US Is the root of all evil, I questioned the percentage of atrocities carried out worldwide under the guise of Al Qeada and the percentage of atrocities carried out by US troops . If you have a problem understanding that, then we can not progress.

Why should I do that Spot.?
The thread Is about the atrocity carried out by a US Troop ( or some US Troops ) during occupation of Afghanistan.
Why on earth would my stating that It would be Interesting to see some stats for atrocities carried out worldwide under the guise of Al Qeada and some stats of atrocities carried out by US troops during occupation have no place In this thread?
It's a perfectly reasonable request given your former posts.
If you feel that has no place In this thread then at least be consistent and refrain from this:
Over here we reserve the removal of hats for the passing of the dead. Perhaps the hat-removers at national anthem moments are being subversive.
What that has to do with this thread along with what Obama did at a football game Is beyond me yet you saw no shame In posting about It.

If you're so keen, you go and find it. You're no different to anastrophe with this bullshit obsession of go find figures in an area where it's blatantly obvious no figures either have been or could have been collated. But do it in a different thread.

Thus, under the existing SOFA, the United States would have jurisdiction over the prosecution of

On a more positive note, it's also the reason the Pentagon unilaterally declared peace in Iraq when the Iraqis refused to sign an extension to theirs. You'll remember they all drove out to Kuwait singing "we won, we won".
It's the same type of instrument you felt should have been used when IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arrested for assault last year.

I'm not anti-American, I'm against the precepts and practices of Capitalism wherever they're found. I have sympathy for the half of the residents of the USA who are either poor or live in fear of joblessness and homelessness and penury while the obscene hyper-rich flaunt their assets. The sooner those hyper-rich, who constitute far fewer than half of all Americans, have their stolen goods stripped from them, the better for the entire world - including the rest of the US citizens - that they stole it from. In this regard I see no difference between the USA and, for example, India - both display a grotesque imbalance of income and wealth between the haves and the have-nots.

For the record, what happens is this. Someone posts an unsupportable inaccuracy. I don't reply "prove it", I ask why they think that's so and I post factual material which demonstrates they're mistaken. What I have no interest in whatever is someone's opinion. Everyone has one, most are inane and bigoted, opinion has no value whatever. What matters is reason.

I was surprised the chap held no diplomatic immunity given his position in world affairs and - as turned out to be the case - I noted that the accusations were impossible to substantiate and the prosecution therefore pointless. I thought then and I think now they were just as politically motivated as the current morass that's tied up Julian Assange.
Nobody would mind your wretched volunteer armed forces being tried by US courts martial if only some of them occasionally would get and serve a sentence the crime warrants. What you know and I know is that it simply doesn't happen.

I guess I'm naive. I was surprised at how much sympathy was shown for the soldier and how little sympathy was shown for his victims by the US press. The excuses for his actions began immediately, yet little attention was paid to the victims.

Dorothea Puente died of natural causes in prison but then she was pretty old. Sorry for going off topic but I'd be interested in knowing how many convicted serial killers haven't been put to death. Spot? This sounds right up your alley.

There haven't been any military members put to death since 1961. Odds are in this guy's favor he'll be imprisoned for the rest of his life.

Have any military members died in jail while serving a lifetime court martial sentence since 1961? I doubt it very much.

Presidential pardons, I was thinking. Go on, I don't think one exists who didn't get let out early, I even doubt anyone got a life sentence from a court martial for killing foreigners in any volume at all during these last fifty years. Where does your armed forces document these sentences?

It is interesting that Bradley Manning, accused in the Wikileaks case, was imprisoned under far more harsh conditions than this soldier while awaiting trial.

Or maybe they see foreigners as valueless. American Exceptionalism expresses itself in lots of ways.

It didn't. AIPAC did. It's a bunch of US citizens lobbying on behalf of a foreign power whose objectives, when met, would damage (and already have massively damaged) US interests. I'd call that treason.

And what are the particular U.S. interests, & how kind of you to be concerned. Are they on par with something like "...........we need oil, not Jews?" Just asking. Also, lobbying is not treason. It's nagging, maybe even bribing, who knows, but not treason.
