Now for my question...

Do you find it very hard to switch it off in your head after a painful case...

This has importance to me for the future too!:-5 there is only one case i can't seem to 'switch off'...a female here who shot her twin 4 year old boys in the head, one was sleeping, one she had to chase down. but otherwise, yes you become jaded and professional after a while, you can't get personally caught up with everybody.

You know what kills me? You're always referring to all the people you're helping, be it with legal situations, health issues, or any one of a dozen other areas that people come to you about, and STILL people won't back off. They know you've been sick, they know you have sh!t of your own to deal with, and they just want more. Gimme gimme gimme. It's all I see!! It's actaully starting to p!ss ME off. You and I talk, every day to great length. What do I keep telling you? Think of YOURSELF for once. The people around you, sucking you dry will take what they can and then move on without a thought for you. The rest of the world can take care of itself. Take care of LC. In fact, the next time I write griping about the most recent thoughtless thing Bullet has done, send me back a link to this thread. :-4

You know what? LC loves to help. She loves to be useful and she knows her stuff. What irritates the LIFE out of me is some who would use her, and vanish, then re-appear to use her again all the while ignoring the tough stuff when SHE'S down. Sure, I know more than most, but I've seen plenty of times where she has gone out of her way, out of the goodness of her heart, (sorry, LC, it had to come out sooner or later that you had one), only to be left high and dry by the very people she has bent over backwards for. Like I say, they'll suck you dry if you let them. Not all, but some. Where the hell did I put my vampire smiley???

Question One:

I watch a lot of episodes of Law and Order.

I am insensed when they lie to and threaten victims in order to get them to comply with what THEY want them to do -- like identify people and/or go to court, particularily if to do so it would result in them going into Witness Protection. I realize that the police and attornies cannot do their jobs if they are not supported by 'the people'. BUT, should not a victim have the choice of NOT testifng if they feel it would in their own best interest not to do so......

I ask this because I cannot understand how anyone would willingly give up their life, their spouces and children's lives, relocate under new names and identiies, and lose everything -- family, friends, a lifestyle. This seems like a more horendoucs crime to me.

Question Two:

It seems to me when I watch all the various 'cop' shows on TV that they are protraying law enforcement people as people not to be trusted. This is totally the opposite of how I was brought up -- the policeman is your friend..... Any comment?

they DO have a choice, under the 5th amendment. if people go into witness protection it is usually because their lives are in extreme danger. it is voluntary. if they are a victim, nobody can make them testify, the DA just has to prosecute with what he/she has. a witness is not all that is required to prosecute, you need collaborating evidence. ...second item...i have not seen shows where the cop is not to be trusted, i can only say that most of us take our oath seriously, there are those exceptions who become corrupt.

I don't know what they're called, but its a telescoping rod (sap?) that you bounce off people. Those are illegal aren't they? I've seen them advertised in a catalog.it's a baton, we are not allowed to carry them, you can kill someone with one of those things. my general advice to all people is do not carry anything that can be used against you.
