Surely it's the intention behind the words, or the gift, or the virtual gift etc that matters? Not the thing in itself?

Wow, this thread took some reading! Phew! It's taken me 3 days to plough my way through. :wah:

Not that I didn't enjoy it, there were a lot of very good points made and I'm glad it was recommended to me. :)

It was also absolutely lovely to see some old friends I thought I might never see again.

For Spotalicious' list of whom to invite back again I should like to suggest the beautiful and irrepressible Pinky, who is always such a joy to have around. The equally beautiful Minks whom I haven't seen for a while and who is full of down-to-earth cheer and finally, beautiful Hamster whose loving care for everyone is boundless.

I would also like to reply to this post of Oscars, but first I must say that I have a lot of respect for Oscar and Peter and am not dissing them in any way. I don't want anyone to think that disagreeing with a post equates to disagreeing with or disliking a person. (Good grief, how PC one has to be these days!)

I sent Ducks son an England Squad world cup shirt that he was thrilled with and wore to school... That is special'.... Ducks sent me some Earrings... That is Special... I sent Nomad a Bee... Not special... It was a virtual Bee.

Anyway, all I wanted to say was that I personally think online gifts ARE special. Whilst a world cup shirt and earrings are the special sort of gifts you would keep forever, there are many other gifts you would give or throw away. Plants and flowers in particular, as they die off, but also things like toiletries you may not like and never use etc.

Virtual gifts may not be real but I have been given virtual gifts which I liked or which made me chuckle and which I have saved in my pictures folder, so that when I'm scrolling through looking for a particular picture which I know is there somewhere, I will come across the virtual gift and it will bring me joy and pleasure once again. Pleasure doesn't just have to come from something physical. Something which makes you laugh or which sparks a great memory can bring great enjoyment too. :)

I throw away a lot of gifts, just crap I personally would never use.

like yesterday, I was given two bottles of red wine for taking care of a neighbors house......yuck....I hate that stuff.:-5

but as you said and I agree, on-line gifts bring great enjoyment and laughs which sparks some great memories.

Actually, very little has changed given the OP's reason for the thread in the first place. It looks different on the surface but I dont see the sort of change that was discussed here

Sorry to hear that you've got bad things going on in your life. I am the last one to know what's new around here as I've been gone half the summer with only brief visits. I wasn't able to figure out some of the changes before I started traveling like, where my emoticons went and how to bring up the FG Trivia without finding an old post by Spot first and where my most recent responses are and . . . . .

But it's nice to see you again. (Smiley face here.) ((U))
