I agree with Scrat and Lon, the issue is not racial.

Interesting sources you have to quote from, I looked them up. (The second one especially) I think you need to bring in some more unbiased sources to discuss your viewpoint.

i get really tired of the racism claims...if i arrest someone black they invariably say i "arrested them because they are black". ..."no arsehole, i arrested you because you robbed the 7-11 with a gun!" i do not believe racism played any part in the NO calamity. poverty did. we can go round and round about poverty and race. but if you are shooting at doctors and nurses and rescue personnel, i don't care if you're pink or purple or orange.

I heard it was a lot of drug addicts that could not leave the city and needed their fix PLUS some people who just took advantage.

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean told one of the nation's largest black church groups that racism was a factor in the rising death toll from Hurricane Katrina.

Dean told the annual meeting of the National Baptist Convention of America in Miami that the nation must "come to terms with the ugly truth that skin color, age and economics played a deadly role in who survived and who did not."

I've never watched Bill O'Reilly on Fox until two days ago. I urge everybody to see it and decide if you like it. He pointed out that the same would have happened in any major city with the same results. He also said all schools should be required to watch N.O. footage to illustrate what happens when you don't work hard, make good grades, and get a good job.

Is race a factor in anything? Well...yeah. I think it is. I don't think it's a coincidence that Asian-American children that immigrate assimilate quickly, learn the language, and excell at academics. Whereas Black-American children (and I get this straight from the latest educational databases) even the ones that come from affluent families, consistently scored lower and progress more slowly in America.

What's the difference? Cultural Values.

The Asian Americans value education, whereas the Black Americans seem to have designed a culture that values ignorance and violence. (See Rap Music and Gansta culture)

Now to New Orleans...Was the delay in the relief effort due to racism. Not a chance. It was entirely due to incompetence in the government. Let me give you an example, the New Mexico National Guard was ready to go to New orleans two days before the hurricane. The paperwork for approval was sent to the White House on that day. It was two weeks before the paperwork was approved and returned!

In the 60s & 70s we had a huge influx of what was then called 'Vietnamese Boat people' They were very quickly assimilated into the community. They didn't try to start up their own communities but embraced the UK culture. ....many took menial jobs because of the language problems. I recently talked to a lady who came from Vietnam (now a UK citizen) and she told me her son and daughter had been to University and done well. Both her and her husband have been picking mushrooms for 30 years but were able to support their kids. I'm pleased to say that they were going to be made redundant and I was able to give them a job in the factory where I work....the working conditions and pay are much better.

I have gone off the point a bit here, but I would say that there are opportunities for all...you just have to work hard and embrace the culture you have chosen to live in.

You know, Bush's reaction to this crisis reminds me of his reaction to 9/11. He kind of "locked up.":(
