In your meta search tags use words that are in the current media. Also, go to other sites that are relevant or industry specific and ask if you guys can trade links. Join a webring, they have one for most topics. Post it here...in General Chit Chat we have a link for people to list their own personal homepages.

Hello,

Asking people's opinions in art forums such as this one is a good step i've found, it's hard though i'm also trying to do it and having trouble!!

My website is www.thedoublelife.co.uk if you fancy a look, i'd love to hear what you think.

Word of mouth is the best way. Find the target group and offer to trade lin ks, or join a webring. Which has been mentioned here. What age are you targeted to? If college age or older....place a small ad in the school paper, or put up signs in places where your target audience congregates.

Make up business cards with the website address and a few word description, hand out to friends, aquaintances, co-workers whomever would help you pass the word.

Not sure about where you are,,but our local swap sheet and community paper always has a page with websites.

Another good idea, if you belong to several message forums, put it in your sig line. It is usually allowed, as long as you are not advertising a competing site.

Place the address in your personal and business email sig line, also!!

Thanks for the replies. We are doing a bit better since last year when i first posted. The signature in the forums seems to work really well and we are just about to start some adwords next month.

If you are interested, the address is holidayfriendships.com

We are about a week away from launching v2 of the site as a stop gap to v3 which has been programmed in a modular way and easier to update, but we are looking at about 6 months coding for that one as it is only really a hobby and the reason it is free. We have jobs that take up most of our time!!

Thanks again and would be interested in any feedback.:-6

There are several ways to get your website noticed. Few of them are listed below:

1)Use descriptive and informative text on each page of your website, choosing words that relate directly to your product, service or industry.

2)Highlight and feature your most important content first, in a clear, uncluttered fashion.

3)Ask other relevant sites to link to yours. One measure search engines now use to measure your site’s importance is the quality, and, to a lesser extent, volume of outside sites that refer to your own.

4)Be sure to create distinct titles for each of the pages on your website, and use your keywords in the titles.

5)Write descriptions that are clear, factual and free of excessive superlatives (best, cheapest, biggest). People prefer sites that are more factual and less “sales talk.”

6)If your geographic location is relevant, use it in your site and make it part of your list of keywords.

7)Don’t expect all search engines and online directories to find you. Many directories, such as the Yahoo! directory and the Open Directory project, offer paid submission options – take advantage of them.

Having a website is great, but without traffic and website visibility, it’s not going to do a heck of a lot for your small business or startup – take some initial steps to boost your visibility with search engines, and watch your traffic and sales grow!

Is your website SEO friendly? For every search phrase, search engines will analyze some key information from websites and gives a rank according to their analysis. This key information mainly includes the meta-tags (with name keywords and description) and title of webpage, some search engines will analyze the headings in body of webpage also to rank the websites for search phrases.

I imagine the best way to get any site noticed is to include "porn" in the Meta Tags as a keyword. True, it may not be targeting the required audience, but it will get it noticed.

The best way to get notice is write quality and effective content don’t duplicate from other sites. And use an easy and capturing Meta tags and domain name. And the important thing is selecting the keywords. You can use adwords to select the best keywords.

Have your friends spread rumours on various discussion forums that your website will be revealing secret communiqués hacked out of the White House.
