I was just watching cnn. and they were talking about spontous conbusting when it's not on. they said that it has to do with the cruise control and some people car have exploded in their garge. well I am going to ford tommorow to make sure mine is safe. I would not hold my breath on them giving you the truth.. That's IF you can get someone to talk to you.

My daughter has a Mercury Sable (Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Corp) - brand new

about 2 months old in October 2004 and some twit runs a red light and hits her head on and then bouches off the front end passenger side with one of those things that look like a gym shoe on 4 wheels... Luckily all were going slow enough that there was NO MAJOR injuries of anyone..

Whole front end of her car is GONE and so is most of the passenger side.. she has all the options on this new MERC which included of course front airbags for driver and passenger and side airbags front and rear on the doors...

NOT ONE FRIGGING AIRBAG went off. THAT freaked everyone out from her, to the cops on the scene, the fire/EMS guys, the tow truck guy and the guys at the body shop where her car was towed. EVen the insurance adjuster from my company that came out.. first thing out of her mouth.. 'THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T GO OFF".. THAT IS WILD ... I'VE NEVER SEEN THAT WITH THIS MUCH DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END AND SIDE WOW !

I decided to pursue it... not for a lawsuit for money.. insurance covered that (his the hitter)... but I wanted to know WHY and if there was a problem with this car and how it would be addressed so once fixed it would be safe and they would work. The dealer wanted no part of this... they gave me some insider phone numbers and names at the corporate to call after I did some arm twisting and lawyer name dropping... I could not find a lawyer (including our Corp ones, the big shots in the big expensive high rise downtown) anywhere that would take on Ford Motor company and this case... they wanted NOTHING TO DO WITH IT and wished me luck. So I figured what do I have to loose and went it on my own..

HA !!!!!! Talk about the Arrogance of Corporate America... oh Ford talked to me

alright and did everything in their power to try and scare me off and intimidate me as well to get out of their faces and go away.... That pissed me off big time so I went at them even harder... I finally after weeks of calls , nasty stuff from their side got high enough to where I THOUGHT something would be done. They even recorded all my calls for legal purposes where I stated over and over I did not want to sue all I wanted was one of their engineers to come out and inspect the car and tell me.. the mother of the young woman injured in this brand new car off the lot... WHY NOT ONE of the airbags deployed, espeically the driver's which would have saved her from a broken nose and cheek bone when she smacked the steering wheel as hard as she did because it didn't. And further, some type of proof that the airbags would work once replaced when the car was rebuilt... they even made me put it in writing... so I did. THEN they go really nasty... I was so frustrated.

My husband got angry and said... you're like one of your pitbulls here, you are so damn tenacious... they don't like that, just back off you're not going to get them to do anything much less give you an answer and all its doing it making you more angry and frustrated and that has a trickle down effect here in the whole house.

I went around with the corporate talking heads for a few more days then I got a call from one of their corporate lawyers that "TOLD ME" they do not deal with the end user consumers.. have my lawyer call their lawyer if I wanted to pursue this any futher.. click... dial tone...

Well guess they told me...

If I had my way I would have driven that car into their corporate headquarters parking area and set it on fire at the front door ... with a note that said.. Here's you car.. enjoy.. another dissatisfied consumer... but common sense dicated it was a nice fantasy but not practical.. Life goes on.

Xxena, get yourself an investigative reporter. Call some tv stations, tell

them what you've told us!!

Maybe there is a fed board akin to the NTSB or something... that is

outrageous!

It's something i've always wondered about airbags, how do they check if they're going to work? i mean, if they do the check & it worked, how do they know that its going to work when they've re-gassed it?

Sorry guys, rambling again!

On another note, a friend of mine had a crash (only slight) but the damage the airbags did was incredible, two black eyes and bruising over his face, the police reckoned if he never had the air bags he'd have come off a lot lighter.
