what are your most precious keepsakes? not monetarily, but emotionally? the reason i ask is that i found an item of Bothwell's while cleaning house last week and it's currently under my pillow....here are a few of mine, a Bible my Dad gave me on my 10th birthday, red leather with gold gilt...in all my travels it has remained with me. a lot of precious cards from loved ones, the beautiful words are beyond price. insignia from Bothwell's army paratrooper uniform that i wear on my own uniform with pride and joy and love. and a jewelry box of keepsakes from my parents and children....little tiny things that mean so much. it sometimes takes a lot of years to see the real value in 'things'.

I have several things: grandmothers bible, several wedding rings from family past on, grandmothers journal, things from childhood like a scrapbook and pictures.

I have a desk that my grandmother gave to me. It was used by her grandfather in the 1800's. The legs look like Popeys' arms and they screw off.

It was made and shaped so it could be packed by a mule up to his goldmine on the Piute Mts. An elevation of 7,200'.

It means a lot to me as I was named after him. I can see the wear where he rested his arm as he wrote. She also gave me her fathers oak telephone. The old wind up kind. She had it restored but left all the internals alone. It was the first phone brought to the kern river valley to be used and hooked up to the new system at the time. I also got his gold masons watch.......

They mean alot, but my treasured item is a knife my dad gave to me that he used growing up on the ranch. It will never be used again and one of my sons will get it.

A pair of inexpensive earrings my wife left at my house when we were dating, I keep them in my fingernail clipper case...not sure why but they've always been there, almost 10 yrs.

A dried flower and a few other things from my moms funeral.

A picture of my uncles grave and an old pocket watch he had.

A beautiful one year sober medallion in a little teak box (my favorite)

All the pictures of my children, from birth on up. The top of my piano is literally inundated with them, at all stages of their lives. Some have had to migrate to the hutch nearby for more room, and I had great difficulty finding room for the latest graduation pics! Those are my precious possessions, the smiles of my children as they grew up.

I carry a little craftsman tape measure in my purse, that my dad carried in his pocket all the time. I also have a the knife he use to widdle things with. Of course family pictures. I have my computer on a desk that my dad and I built for my daughter 30 years ago, who know it may be around for another 30 years.

I have a clock my grandfather brought over from Scotland with him. I have lots of special thing that I have put away for keeping.. maybe time to get them out and take a look at them.:-4

I wear on a chain around my neck, a 1880 10 dollar American gold coin that was given to me 50 years ago. I'm not really superstitous, but it has become a talisman for me.

In the military you collect alot of crap. Ribbons, letters, certificates, pictures, cards, coins, plaques, pins, cheap souvenirs, you name it. It all goes in a box, bag, or whatever, most never to be brought out again ... until retirement time.

Stuff that outsiders would feel is important such as the ruble coin and rank insignia a Soviet NCO gave me during a SALT II inspection, or a book of matches off of Air Force 1, pale in comparison to that cheap plaque my buddies gave me as a going away gift. It had meaningless phrases engraved on it, except that each phrase invoked a memory and a story we share. It's crap all right, but it's my crap!

I have loads of family photos including a very old one on a tin plate of my grandma when she was 16. ... and pictures my girls painted for me when they were in primary school.

I have a very small piece of the Berlin Wall, about the size of a silver dollar. Every now and then when I run across it I like to pick it up and roll it around in my hands, touch it, its an important piece of history.

I have newspaper articles of the sports teams I was on when I was a kid.

I have my Dads well used Dictionary. But I only have two photos of him.

My childrens hospital wristbands from when they were born.

A big certificate given to us to confirm that my daughters hole in her heart had closed naturally.

A diamond and blue topaz pendant that an ex gave to me for my birthday.

Family pictures & "8mm reels" of my kids when they were small, especially when we were on vacations & or on special occasions. I have a ring my Dad gave me, that his Dad left to him. My Dad said he wanted me to have it while he was still alive, so he could get pleasure seeing me wear it. My Mom gave me some of her recipies, of my favoriate meals. (I'm a pretty good cook myself, thanks to her teaching me as I was growing up)

Dozens of saved Birthday & anniversary cards, even get well cards, with sentimental sayings- are looked at every now and then. (After this post, it will be "now"!) Many more things, but it's starting to get too mushey in here!

I've always been a romantic, so it doesn't take too much for me to get sentimental.

I love photos! I have tons of them and they're probably what I would think of most in terms of keepsakes. I also save show posters, newspaper clips and movie stubs, etc, in scrapbook form.

Apart from family photos and jewellry, I have a lock of my nieces hair from her 1st birthday, I have the plane tickets from my honeymoon, my first birthday and christmas card with the word 'wife' on them and my first 'Auntie' card from my niece. They don't look much but they mean the whole world to me. :-6

I have a postcard that my German grandmother wrote out, half in German, half in English when she was gifting me cash to get my ears pierced when I was a teenager. She was big on also give you a handkerchief and a coin. The coin is a 1882 silver dollar. My grandmother passed away in 1968 and I cherish these items.

I have a lot of keepsakes as I'm a saver. I have a cake plate that my Grandmother gave my parents as a wedding gift in 1924, a little card my youngest son made in third grade for me on Mother day, I am wearing a plain thin gold wedding band my father-in-law gave to my mother-in-law when they got married in 1929. She had to quit wearing it because of weight loss. I found it when we were organizing her stuff for an auction. I asked my husband if I could have it and he said sure. I still have my hat I wore at my wedding in 1959. I also have a plastic carton of baby clothles from our four sons.

I have my dads Ukulele - old as the hills........A rose from my dads casket...

pictures- each one of my kids made in preschool....an antique writing desk which was my brothers who has passed away and my SWATCH..I was the first person at my school to have one after my brother had gone over seas- and boy were the other girls jealous..same brother that has passed..

My grandmother's hall tree and her secretary are my favorite. Letters of commendations from my job, my old dolls, and my great grandmothers journal.

When I take my old dolls out, I feel seven years old again and they still work!
