Fresh from our visit of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, we were introduced to the Crazy Rambler Lady.
Heading up Hwy. 89 near the Arizona / Utah border I noticed an old Rambler Classic weaving across the lanes attempting to pass everything in front of it.
This is a two lane highway, mind you, but she didn't care if there was oncoming traffic! She would place her Rambler on the tail of the car she was trying to pass AND would stay halfway into the other lane - forcing oncoming traffic to swerve to the right onto the shoulder. This of course was in a car that obviously hadn't seen new shocks in the last 30 years so it appeared as though it was going to flip over as it careened around corners and other cars.
Let's take a look at her "sweet" car: (continued...)

Soon, it was our turn to have her make her move on us - which she did in her classic "damn the torpedos" style. As she passed (no oncoming traffic this time) I blew my horn, squeezed the double yellow line to push her over, and saluted her with great fanfare.
Oblivious, she sped on.
And weaved, and swerved, and generally operated her car like a carnival ride. I was motivated to find out if she was drunk so I sped up to catch her. Since we were out in the sticks, we had no cell phone coverage, so even if she was drunk, there wasn't much we could do but stay a good distance away.
Then the road construction signs appeared. Traffic stopped and we got a clear view of her distraction - she had been reading the Bible while driving!
Better yet, when she stopped, she started fanning herself madly with an object that appeared to be a book marker - with an interesting image on it. I grabbed my camera and took a few shots which confirmed our suspicions: Jesus was her co-pilot. (continued...)

Notice the traffic control guy? He gave us the sign that the wait was going to be 10 minutes.
Notice the Rambler's position on the road? Yup, she was contemplating a way to get around the construction and began positioning her car to pass on the right.
I guess she figured she couldn't get around and turned off her engine. After a few minutes, she got agitated and got out of the car - waived her arm and paced.
Within the 10 minute time frame, the pilot car arrived and we all headed down the freeway - with the crazy lady in front of us trying to take out the construction pilot car.
We found it amusing and finally understood why the Mormons considered some of the Christians living in Utah as "crazy".

Argh, I learned how to drive in a car like that! With the gear shift on the steering column!

The difference between Congress as envisoned by the Founding Fathers and the Congress we have today is one of them inspires patriots to support it, and the other inspires patriots to buy extra ammo (Angel Shamaya)
