Rats have rabies, then they get mean & start chattering their sharp teeth and drooling.

After they escape they sit on your chest while your sleeping & eat your face.

Rats make nice pets. I used to have mice and loved them. I keep critters in my classroon, I have frogs and toads. The kids love them! But my pet cat at home doesn't like when I bring them home for vacation time.

OMG - the kids have a white rat also- his name is Matches becuase of his red eyes!! My daughter won him in a drawing at school - It was very cool... The Iowa State Extention Office - gave each classroom 2 rats..for 6 weeks...They fed one junk food and one health food - then showed the kids what would happen to you if u did not eat healthy food...All Matches eats is lettuce, seeds, M&M's carrotts, tomatoes, bread and cookies....He is a good pet..but am I right that their life span is rather short...?

hey mom i was going to call mine matches because he also has red eyes but i decided on Milky i don't know why i just started calling him that lol

and Normad my rat does not have rabies he is so lovely!!

I used to try and get parents to buy pet rats for their kids instead of those stupid mean hamsters. They make great pets - very social and smart.

They can live longer if you get a bedding that doesn't cause respiriatory problems. They are quite prone to these.

Use to have a pet mouse under a pice of tin. I would check on the mouse on the way to the school bus. But then one day a strong wind blew away my pice of tin.

Never saw that mouse again.

As for rats I've seen them bigger then cats. Don't care for them much. Do like the Aerosmith song Rats in the Cellar though:)
