COMPETING WINNING 0R LOSING

Post by Lon »

In some parts of our society competition is dead and we are told that children need to feel good about themselves and that competing and losing could hurt their self esteem, therefore, level the playing field and let's everyone be a winner. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!!! In the real world we compete for jobs and spouses. Who would want a job that no one else was interested in, or a spouse that no one else wanted to date? What joy is there in running a race where everone comes in first? Children need to feel good about themselves and this can be achieved by touting the particular strengths of each child. Winning and losing is all a part of life and this needs to be learned early on, not as adults. What a disaster it would be to wake up at age 20 or so and find out that it's a competitive world. What do you think about this?

I agree, as long as the kids are taught that there’s no shame in coming second if they’ve tried there best.

I agree with you totally Lon, I think you'll find that competitve sports days are gradually being re-introduced.

I was absolutely hopeless at sports but just accepted it as something you had to do at school. Nobody can be good at everything and there is nothing worse than jumped up kids thinking they are brilliant at everything, encourage and be honest, but don't over inflate their heads!

and worse yet jumped up parents who think their kids should be good at everything whoooooo the pressure NOT fair.

Compitetion is good as you all said as long as winners and loosers understand they did their best.
