Strategic Defence Review 2025 published

We are delivering our commitment to spend
2.5% of GDP on defence, accelerating it
to 2027, and we have set the ambition to
reach 3% in the next Parliament, subject
to economic and fiscal conditions. This
investment will end the hollowing out of
our armed forces and enable the UK to
step up, to lead in NATO, and take greater
responsibility for our collective self-defence.

Strategic Defence Review Making Britain Safer: secure at home, strong abroad 2025

And no, Prime Minister. You along with your advisers have the story backward.

A history lesson perhaps. When has the UK deployed the its armed forces abroad to the benefit of the country?

How long have you got. Where would you like to start. World War 1? What possible interest had the UK in allowing itself to be tangled up in that continental farrago. Why on earth does anyone think deploying or fighting outside the Homeland for World War 1 improved matters? Declaring war on Germany was an appalling error of judgement, all our engagement achieved was to trigger World War 2 - or are we pretending the right side won? Are we still saying the Hun was the bad guys?

World War 2? What possible interest had the UK in allowing itself to be tangled up in that continental farrago. Why on earth does anyone think deploying or fighting outside the Homeland for World War 2 improved matters? Go on, give me a reason. Declaring war on Germany was an appalling error of judgement, the conclusion of World War 2 was clear from before it started. The USSR was going to win whether we declared war or not.

Keep up, work through all the other foreign deployments and tell me where my boilerplate response is wrong, we can discuss the exceptions you identify. I don't think there are any.

And here we are trying to tool up again for the declared purpose of more foreign deployment. First explain why it would be a good idea.
