RIP Heinz Wolff

Post by Bryn Mawr »

Part of my childhood has just left the stage :-

Heinz Wolff, Great Egg Race presenter and scientist, dies - BBC News

I grew up on programs like Young Scientist of the Year with Heinz as one of the major advisors and judges.

I was also lucky enough to meet him once, in a computer shop in London about 1980 when you had to go to the big city to find a computer shop :-)

RIP Sir, you were a great influence.

Indeed. He was an inspiration.

I went looking on the Royal Institution website for his Christmas Lecture but I couldn't find it though I remember watching it at the time. That must have been forty years back.

What I did find was this year's Bragg Lecture and it's tremendous, Professor Glazer manages to convey a lot very clearly.

The first Christmas Lectures I ever saw were presented by Eric Laithwaite, who passed away earlier this year.

The 2nd was by Heinz Wolff.

Nice tribute, Bryn.
