And the next Prime Minister will be...

Post by spot »

I hate to see Strong And Stable May go, she's pure comic genius, but she's not going to stay after her latest outing.

We could get Gove. My goodness the country would explode with derisive anger.

Mother Leadsom? I would pay them to choose Mother Leadsom.

If they have an ounce of sense they'll go for Boris. His comment on Libya was entirely justified political satire, as was his comment on President Muammar Gaddafi's "execution" by which he obviously meant murder. Had so-called Cameron not backed the Libyan opposition in exile and promoted Libyan destabilization, President Gaddafi would still be in power. Libya would still be stable. A million Libyans would not be refugees across Europe. So-called Cameron would still be Britain's Prime Minister, Brexit would never have happened and this thread wouldn't exist. Vote Boris. Boris tells it like it is.

Whoever it is will only be a caretaker PM until the new messiah Corbyn sweeps into power, he will personally rebuild the UK housing stock, put the banking system to rights, sort out the inequalities in the taxation of multinationals, then renationalise everything................before tackling world peace.....all before lunch on his first day in office.

This is a comedy thread ?

Deadly serious, it's too important to joke about.

If we're going to brexit, as you are all well aware I think it will be disastrous. Even so I don't want Johnson because I think he will tell us we should all get behind brexit and be positive and optimistic about it because that way it will definitely 100% guaranteed be a great success. He'll then go on to say that those who don't back it are, in fact traitors to their country, morally speaking and they are to blame if it fails because it would have succeeded if they had been with the program.

On the other hand, bizarre as it sounds, he's probably the only person now who could stop brexit.

I'm quite sure he would never have aligned himself with the Brexit campaign if he had thought for one moment it might succeed. He was positioning himself for the next leadership challenge, nothing more.

Oh, I agree. Now he's rather trapped. If I had to bet I'd still bet May will stay because no-one else will take it til after brexit but I'm less sure of that than I was a few days ago. Johnson now is the brexiter who doesn't really believe but has to make a success of it to be a hero to posterity not a fool and a laughing stock who outsmarted himself. Current negotiations give no grounds for optimism about what he'll have to deal with if he doesn't move now. That, I think, would be something like the reasoning if he went for PM now

We've just discovered that you can't trust polls anymore. They had labor at 81% then the Libs got in easily. So as of a week ago we have Scott Morrison as our new prime minister.
The 'radical' left just wants everyone to have food, shelter, healthcare, education and a living wage. Man that's radical!....ooooohhhh Scary!

We had lots of coverage of it. Give the man a fair go, apparently.

give him a fair go? ....I think the poor little rich man in the pockets of the rich has had enough of a fair go. There goes all the penalty rates ... tax concessions for the rich, he's one of those "trickle down" economic guys. Funny how the 'trickle' gets turned off at the tap because it's seen as a leak.

I wasn't recommending it, just noting the common excuse.

The UK, for those presently off-world or comatose, had an election yesterday. The results are being announced as I type.

Boris has an upgrade to a full majority, he no longer needs any support from the Ulstermen thank Christ, at least there's no billion pound bribe needed by the end of the week.

The last-ever left-wing Labour shadow cabinet is about to disband, New Labour is about to reaffirm itself, the UK is finally and regretably reduced to one single centre-ground political party and that just happens to be mine. The Common People is, as of today, recruiting candidates for the next Westminster Election in 2024. Every other party in this country is right-wing with occasional Green pretensions for camouflage, and not much of that either. The Left is dead, long live the Centrists.

Those keeping a close eye on matters will have noticed that The Common People had a single candidate in the election this time round and it was me. I have, naturally enough, lost my deposit and garnered around five votes, but it's a start. We stand for justifiable social reform and a heavily strengthened National Space Program. Please form an orderly queue, we have five years in which to rally the nation before the next test of the political temperature.

We are at least spared the catastrophe of a full-bore hard Brexit, Boris now has enough firepower to do without his own lunatic fringe pressing to crash out with no deal. I would imagine that by Easter the Leave voters will be baying for his blood and screaming betrayal with Mark Francois to the fore, dumbing himself down to the bone for effect.

It would appear The Brexit Party, the English Defence League, The National Front and The United Kingdom Independence Party have all romped home with zero MPs. Well done Mr Farage, that's yet one more pint I'll buy you should we ever meet.

God help us all, what a nightmare and what a terrible knife edge I've had to walk having a daughter who works for the local Conservative MP, and my god that agony was long and drawn out all day today to make matters worse! Must be time they updated the way the votes are counted on the Scillies!

I never want to repeat the last few weeks again.

I am in a rather intense Political Debate Group on FaceBook (Political Squawkbox) which has Members from all across the Political Spectrum, making for a nicely balanced Group. But I've also been keeping a check on some other more biased Groups, such as "We Support Jeremy Corbyn". In the weeks leading up to the election they were just Echo Boxes, convincing each other that Labour was heading for a record victory, where any mention that Labour had set themselves up for a fall by betraying the Labour Heartlands which were all predominantly Leave would be met with accusations of being a "Tory Troll".

Now, anyone who knows me knows that I am far from being a Tory Troll, having previously been a Member of the Labour Party myself, and am still inclined to Socialism. However, this time I felt I had no other option but to vote Tory due to the betrayal of the Party I had previously considered my own.

But once the results started coming in it was hilarious to see the cries about the election having been 'rigged'. I mean, if it had been, as many expected, just a small majority, then there may have been a tiny amount of credibility, but with a situation where Labour have suffered their worst defeat ever, that takes on an entirely different scenario.

Be under no illusions. This was nothing to do with Political Policies, it was a 2nd Referendum in all but name, plain & simple, and Labour's betrayal of the Electorate, after first having promised that they would respect the result of the Referendum & not to hold another, followed by going out of their way to thwart Brexit at every opportunity meant that the Tories didn't win the election. Labour handed it to them on a silver platter.

I still believe that if Labour had honoured their pledges from the 2017 election, we would have a Labour Majority Government in place by now.
