Do I need to find another Sneaker?

I have been wearing New Balance Sneakers (NB) for many years now, because they fit my feet comfortably.

This morning, this statement below was posted on social media.

A white supremacist blogger (Pepe The Frog) and self-described internet troll has declared New Balance sneakers (NB) "the official shoes of White people" and encouraged his readers to buy them "so we will be able to recognize one another by our sportswear."

I am not a "white supremacist", and don't want to be associated with them, damn, I really don't want to have to find another sneaker brand. Hope that stupid blog doesn't catch on!

What brand do you wear, if it's NB will you still wear them?

Well, I know a lot of white people here in Colorado. They wear boots when they dress up, but for chores and such, a lot of them wear NB.

I used to like NB, but for the last several years, they have been really bad. So I found another shoe maker that is far better.

Merrell. They are more comfy, nicer looking and more reliable than NB.

People who wear Merrel around here are mostly "librul" types who just want a comfortable shoe for walking, or working, or hiking the hills.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out, never heard of Merrel.

BTW, I wore my NB's to the store today, and no one seemed to give an acknowledging secret look, so far guess all is OK! :wah:

I recently bought myself a pair of Vans - not because I am inspired by Brand names or anything like that but years ago I was given a pair of Vans by someone, and they lasted me really well. Finally as they started to wear out I decided the time had come to get another pair so because of the positive experience I had had from the last pair I ordered me another identical pair.

Furthermore, getting footwear for me, let alone Brand Names, is tough at the best of times, what with having size 17 (UK), wide fitting feet. The thing is, that not only are they superb quality & really comfortable, they only cost about £35, plus shipping.

I sometimes have problems getting foot wear for my US size 13EE.

The problem I have with this thread is the notion of buying a branded product.

Why would anyone pay a premium for branding? I've been known to unstitch branding marks, I even have a special tool to do it with.

I can see, on some of my clothing and shoes, the manufacturer's name, but only on tag label on the inside which gives me size and cleaning information.

My tennis kit has a Slazenger cat which I deplore but tennis kit is invariably branded and the marks are small.

My plimsolls have no such identifiers. They are generic, chosen for their comfort and quality.

I have nothing resembling a trainer as far as I'm aware. Ugly things, trainers.

I generally avoid branded clothes as well as most of them are prone to Planned Obsolescence & not intended to be "The In Thing" for very long, and thus replaced with another. The only reasons I chose the Vans were that previous experience had shown me that they were reliable, hard wearing, comfortable, cheap, and they fit me. Most of the time I do my clothes shopping at Jacamo. They do good stuff (branded and not) at good prices, and excellent Customer Service.

To paraphrase bruce lee your fashion style no style at all. That is in itself a fashion statement. Ageing scruff perhaps? get out the afghan coat and grow your hair again (if you still have any) your'e back in fashion.

It's the current trend for the metrosexual male I find amusing. When as a spotty teenager I worried over getting the right kind of flares and kipper tie I had no idea I was so advanced in my thinking. At least i never went for a perm I had matured enough by then not to care.

Bought a pair of merrell boots when they first started importing them to this country, incredibly confortable but absolutely useless for walking in scotland roinded heels and not waterproof with useless leater you couldn't waterproof even a little bit. two steps and you were wearing blotting paper. Much better now but premium prices like the borg they have adapted.

I am pretty much the same......about brand names. But to un-stitch branding......that is inverted snobbery or something.
