Americans, Please Sign this Petition

Post by AnneBoleyn »

https://www.change.org/p/electoral-coll ... er=2580030

Elijah Berg started this petition with a single signature, and now has 2,418,375 supporters.

Electoral College: Make Hillary Clinton President on December 19

"On December 19, the Electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots. If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, they can vote for Hillary Clinton if they choose. Even in states where that is not allowed, their vote would still be counted, they would simply pay a small fine - which we can be sure Clinton supporters will be glad to pay!

We are calling on the Electors to ignore their states' votes and cast their ballots for Secretary Clinton. Why?

Mr. Trump is unfit to serve. His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic.

Secretary Clinton WON THE POPULAR VOTE and should be President.

Hillary won the popular vote. The only reason Trump "won" is because of the Electoral College.

But the Electoral College can actually give the White House to either candidate. So why not use this most undemocratic of our institutions to ensure a democratic result?

SHE WON THE POPULAR VOTE.

There is no reason Trump should be President.

"It's the 'People's Will'"

No. She won the popular vote.

"Our system of government under our Constitution says he wins"

No. Our Constitution says the Electors choose.

"Too many states prohibit 'Faithless Electors'"

24 states bind electors. If electors vote against their party, they usually pay a fine. And people get mad. But they can vote however they want and there is no legal means to stop them in most states.

I dont understand........ how can you be fined for casting a vote? Isnt voting private?

Sounds to me like there needs to be an overhaul of the system.

But i suppose its the old saying...."if voting made a difference, they wouldnt let you do it.

This is not a personal vote. Read the petition. It is about the Electoral College, formed when there was not a direct, popular vote for Presidents, etc. It was formed as it was believed the average voter (white male, property owner only) didn't have enough sense to elect directly. That sure proved right in this case, & the electors can overturn as Hillary won the popular.

Give it a rest.

So you suggest anarchy? What else do you call it when you invalidate the votes because you don't like the result?

This has now has happened for the fifth time and I celebrate that we do that.

I like the comment that a pure democracy is like two wolves eating a lamb.
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.

It is not the time to change the electoral system when a baddie gets elected and especially under these circumstances...............think of the backlash.

It needs to be changed by general consensus during a stable period and not as way to out trump the Trump Meister.
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

I don't care if she won the popular vote.

There were more "closet" Trump voters obviously - and the end result is Trump won.

People marching in the streets protesting - this petition it's ridiculous.

No one has given this man a chance

How can any one expect the U.S. to be United when we're throwing a tantrum before Trump is given the chance.

This petition pisses me off

Don't get your collective knickers in knots, tude, patsy. It's the American way to petition. Sign it or not, just offering up some news. It won't change the outcome, but perhaps is viable for future discussions, re: electoral college.

Knickers?

My dad wore knickers. I may be old, but I don't believe knickers made it that far west.

Could be wrong.

American way to sign a petition?

I've never heard of signing a petition to get rid of a elected Pres.

Why sign knowing there will be NO change?

This is a adult tantrum for those who didn't like the outcome.

This is to create under current friction & who needs it?

Perhaps the majority wasn't ready for a female Pres.? popular or not?

I say give Trump a chance

46%.of illedgible voters didnt vote. So really its not a real election that reflects everyones preference.

Anne i said i didnt understand...... you dont have to rap me over the knuckles. Didnt know you had an electral college... to me thats bizarre.

America could do what we do. Its said we have the best system in the world. Everyone on their 18th birthday has to register to vote. That means every single person has a voice.

I dont personally agree with the system but it does even things out. Again personally i dont believe any 18year old knows much about anything and the fact they want to lower the voting age to 16 is even weirder.

And of course there is a way of getting rid of over the top leaders such as prime ministers . You end up with the same party but the lunatics are kept under control.

Its a pity the US doesnt have that option .....or do they?

Can someone else be elected by the cabnet to replace Trump?

The main objection to obama semed to be no more than that he was black. You've had eight years in which a hostile congress and senate have effectively prevented a president implementing his policies and also prevented him replacing a supreme court judge despite their obligation under the constitution to do so (at least that is my understanding of it).

Presumably they can do the same with trump if they want to. Be interesting to see if the checks and balances in the constutution will be used against trump in the same way as they were against obama. It's not as if the US has elected a dictator with unlimited powers is it?.

There could be some psychological truth there. I believe hes a straight out con man. Whats the psychological make up of a con man?

Have you ever watched a television interview with a con man who has been criminally caught? The similarities between them is actually quite scary. (After watching the 60 min interview with Trump)

Anne

My opinion is not a personal attack on you.

As you stated - this petition will not make a difference.

For all to know - I voted for Hillary. My hubby voted for Hillary.

Stating the majority may not of been ready for a female Pres. - I'm trying to justify the out come.

So, whatever

I can say with a certainty that there are a very many out there who either voted Trump, or did not vote because they have blocked the idea of a woman president.

These people were willing to believe all the chatter about Clinton, and overlook all the negativity from Trump, simply because Hillary is a woman.

And many of those people are women.

First of all, I did not vote for Trump or anyone else. I skipped to the local races.

My argument is about the value of the electoral college which requires a candidate to convince the whole country, not just a few populous areas.
