Football violence yet again.

An England supporter is in critical condition tonight - and two others have been seriously injured - after violence worsened during a third day of trouble in Marseille.

It's been in Marseilles before, as I recall.

One might wish this country would just revoke their passports and strand them there permanently.

Tattooed skinhead racist thugs, some of them.

If the Russians and the English had their passports and return tickets swapped in Marseilles and sent where the paperwork says, we'd get the better end of the deal.

I think you are saying Russian idiots are better than English ones.

You may be better informed than I. My impression is that the Russian visitors have been fewer, quieter and more tastefully dressed.

I'll be there in a fortnight, I'll enquire of the locals.

Oh gawd ! Spreccunsi Inglish silver plate !

I understand from the news tonight, that gangs of Russian youths had arrived in Marseille and had started throwing missiles, chairs etc. at groups of English football supporters. I suppose the English are bound to retaliate ! This is just to add to the violence between English and French 'supporters' of the two previous nights !

At the end of the news there was a direct link to the football stadium where a reporter said that at the end of the game there was a loud bang (I heard that and hoped it wasn't a terrorist bomb !), then Russian supporters started to move towards English supporters and some fighting broke out in the stands while the players were leaving the pitch after the whistle had blown. As the reporter was speaking, one could see that there were no people left in the stadium, and all had calmed down.

The next England match will be on Thursday afternoon against Wales, at Lens. I don't expect there will be any Russians there to cause trouble, and I would hope that the English and Welsh supporters would be much better behaved and not like savages ! Good grief I thought all this damn violence was sorted long ago. It is supposed to be a sport ! An entertainment !

Fathoming the BBC reports I can see why we may have reached different conclusions. The Russian violence appears to have been primarily confined to the stadium, while the English violence was visible in the three-day drunken city-centre posturing against the forces of law and order. I'd seen nothing of what happened inside the stadium while we were discussing the issue. Yes, a portion of the Russian crowd premeditatedly threatened the English crowd as the game finished and it was very one-sided.

When you visit, ask the locals whether the problems started in the preceding days.

The two countries, Russia and England have a history of alcohol fueled hooliganism had a competition over who were best at it.

There are people like that.

On the one hand we did invade their country. On the other, the Russian Navy did attack the British inshore trawler fleet fishing on the Dogger Bank. Presumably football fans consider this to be unfinished business.

The TV report did say that gangs of Russian supporters arrived in Marseille well before the match and they were seen to attack British supporters in the town !

Not sure about the invasion of Russia unless you are talking about Crimea ! But if that was the case then surely that was cancelled out by the terrific loss of life of British sailors (both merchant and Royal Navy) whilst getting food and supplies round to starving Russia in the Arctic convoys in WWII ! No I can't see 'old scores' here, just plain nasty hooliganism.

Exactly, Bruv. Too much testosterone and alcohol. All those caught fighting (both sides) should be rounded up and incarcerated in two separate containment areas. till they sober up and then get escorted to the airport and shipped back to their own countries. When back in their own countries they should be black-listed and have their passports confiscated.

I heard something on the radio about there being Football Hooliganism Training Camps in Russia. Really? Does it really take any training?

I think im having one of those..."is it just me" moments. Does anyone remember soccer hooligans being so fit? Those russians looked a bit military-ish to me. And the sickening footage!
The 'radical' left just wants everyone to have food, shelter, healthcare, education and a living wage. Man that's radical!....ooooohhhh Scary!

The result of weeks spent in training camps learning how to be better thugs?
