Trident lets UK punch above weight - US defence secretary - BBC News

I can well imagine that the US Defence secretary thinks Trident allows the UK to punch above its weight. So might the UK Defence secretary, British politicians in general and elements of the Civil Service.

I'd be interested to hear why the British public, or the world's public for that matter, might think having the UK punch above its weight is a good idea. Trident may well be an asset to the UK, but punching above our weight seems a very undesirable end.
