One could, I suppose, put it that way.

I was never allowed to watch, my mother wouldn't let him in the house or hear his name spoken. Which is a testament to his performance, I reckon.

His stage performances I regret missing.

There's no sense in calling him a comedian but his monster role, Alf Garnett, was exactly that. Frankensteinian. He was an astonishing actor.

I always likened Warren Mitchell / Alf Garnett to "Love Thy Neighbour". The humour was much more subtle than that seen at face value. Many people viewed it as being very Politically Incorrect & Racist, where in actually fact, the humour was actually targeted at deriding the Racist aspect of his nature.
