Pope Francis visits Cuba - CNN.com
Pope says society must protect most vulnerable,
Unless it's a priest doing the unspeakable to a child.
Other Catholic politicians, such as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who is running for president, said the Pope was wrong to help broker a diplomatic detente between the United States and Cuba.
"The fact is that his infallibility is on religious matters, not on political ones," Christie told CNN's Jake Tapper.
If I was an american the fact an american politician can say something like that without being challenged would have me worried.
I used to read those american sci fi stories like the handmaids tale and the postman where athe religious riught have taken over and find them hard to credit I'm not so sure now.

This Pope is a whole new direction for the Church. Don't judge his words on the behavior of a group of people in the past that were outside of his jurisdiction at the time.
Past is past.
As for what an American Politician has said, we seem to have a lot of those around here these days who enjoy talking out of their &$$
The new Pope speaks to the Heart, I think, and I hope hearts will listen.

There are plenty of moslems who also believe their imams speak to the heart as well the world would be a better place if people stopped listening to religious leaders telling them what to think and believe and thought for thnemselves. Catholics and protestant churches and the various islamic sects do a great deal of harm in the name of a greaetr good they think everybody shopuld obey.

Agreed, GMC. Religion makes a good power-base wide open to interpretation and abuse!

Most people simply go about their lives and could give a flying flip about all the global stuff. They just want to be left alone to get on with the task of living. People are going to listen somebody else about the big stuff.
Catholics will listen to the Pope. Most Muslims will listen to some Imam, or another. Most Protestant Christians listen any number of preachers.
If a few million people are going to listen to one person, this guy has shown himself worthy of being one of those persons worth listening to.

There is so much wrong with that statement but I'll settle for like the words of adolf hitler were worth listening to?

Thyat is such a pathetic sttement, are you really saying most people are incapable of deciding for themselves. Think what you like and believe what you like but it woud be better if you could make up you own mind about things without looking for someone to give you the answers. In the case of th pope those who don't follow his teachings are heretics and going to hell. Be your own man not a follower - as you are american I am surprise you are so ready and to subjugate yourself to someone elses total authority.

Wow. You sure read a lot into me from that statement.
Listening to, and obeying, are not the same thing.
I listen to many people. I obey very few. Well, maybe one. My wife, but she says I don't even do THAT very well.
Some people speak with authority, and are worth listening to. When climate and weather specialist speak about Climate change, and Ted Cruz and Tony Blair Speak about climate change, which group do you suppose I should listen to? Or should I ignore both and spend my life going about the world to see for myself?
Sorry, but I am really busy, here in Boulder County, and can't get my boss to spring for me to make that trip, so I have to take someone's word for what's going on. So, who do you think I should listen to, there?
Same with matters of the spirit. A lot of people have put a lot of thought into spiritual matters over the last few thousand years. I figure it's worth my time to listen to a few of them, and see who makes sense. Never hurts.

It was implied in the way you phrased it. The pope is supposed to be infallible and straight from god it's a bit different from an "authority" expressing a scientific opinion if you don't obey you don't get in to heaven Religion is doing a great deal of harm around the world the pope is part of that he's one of those who argues religious belief shoud not be challenged and is somehow above criticism.
Most people simply go about their lives and could give a flying flip about all the global stuff.
I would agree with you there except that the religious won;t leave people to get on with thbeir lives in the way that they choose.
