Brian Sewell, RIP

I note with immense sadness the death of Brian Sewell whose views on the arts were immeasurably valuable, and evidently valued by many in this country throughout the second half of his life. I don't recall ever seeing him on a television, though I understand he made a number of series relating to the arts. His contributions on assorted radio programs were moments to treasure, his newspaper columns on occasion the only reason for buying a paper that day at all.

His views were informed and educational, and rarely reflected any majority opinion. In matters of taste he was a worthy leader.

I used to read his column occasionally in the London Evening Standard. He was often very scathing and painfully honest about the stuff he didnt value.

I remember him most, however for his voice. It was a beautiful voice
