How long before their proxy war turns in to a real one do you reckon?
Saudi arabia/iran How long?
I don't see either of them gearing up for an invasion of the other.
They are much too clever for that. They would rather draw in their more secular buddies, like Russia, US, and the Europeans to to bring troops in.
We, "The West" need to stay the hell out of it.

It was us (the west that is) that replaced a democratic government in iran with the shah, them got Iraq to go to war with iran after the bayatollah took over then took out saddam Hussein leaving the Saudis increasingly powerful in the region with us turning a blind eye to the appalling regime that runs the place, their sponsorship of al queda and the attacks on the twin towers (the terrorists were saudi Arabian not Iraqi) all over the place. Add in iran trying to build nuclear weapons (you can understand why) and you can just see the west winding itself up to invade iran side by side with the Saudis.
This is also about religion sunni/shia what makes you think rational thought comes in to it true they've been at war by proxy for some time now but sooner or later IMO they will syart on each other in earnest.
The british and amricans have invaded iran before during ww2 to stop the germans buying Iranian oil

The US was not the only entity behind the re-instatement of Pahlavi. The Brits were knee-deep in Iran, at the time, too.
And Iraq and Iran have been enemies since the 10th century. It didn't take any goading from the US to get Hussein to try and make a move on the Iranian Oil fields.

That was good thing, a necessary thing, don't you agree?

IT was actually the Soviets and British that invaded Iran back then.

Well aware of that that's why I try and say the west rather than just the US, perfidious albion is still at it. Our empire was built to serve our industry nothing really changes does it.

You're right my apologies I should have double checked my facts. It was before the US entered the war although there were American troops involved later in keeping the oil flowing. posted by anne boleyn

Oh yes It was war and we were fighting or survival. Lot to be said for the old days at least no one pretended it was all about democracy and freedom just naked power and going after resources.

You paint a lovely pciture. I'm going to toss my TV out the window, stock up on mineral water, and lock the door.

Cheer up I might be wrong, just don't look up what Nostradamus had to say about it.

He must have been talking about Persia.
