Are Your Family, Friends, Acquaintances Deaf or Don't They Listen To You?

Post by jones jones »

Why else would you spend so much time on Face Book, Twitter and other sundry online social networking sites? Is it because you are bored, because you cannot interact with earthlings face to face, are you alone, do you have too much time on your hands, do you want to “show off”?

Why can’t you be satisfied just talking to your spouse, kids, and friends? Reading a good book, watching TV? Going out to eat, going to the cinema, walking along the promenade or the beach?

Or is it the immediacy of typing howzit? onto your screen and immediately getting an answer from a quarter of gazillion online fools? Or do you enjoy saying stuff on Twitter or whatever and getting re-tweets and followers? Does it make you feel important, good when this type of thing happens?

When last did you lie on your back on the grass and watch the clouds floating by like when you were a kid? How often in the last year have you looked up at the sky at night and maybe seen a falling star?

"How strange it is. We have these deep terrible lingering fears about ourselves and the people we love. Yet we walk around, talk to people, eat and drink. We manage to function. The feelings are deep and real. Shouldn’t they paralyze us? How is it we can survive them, at least for awhile? We drive a car, we teach a class. How is it that no one sees how deeply afraid we were, last night, this morning? Is it something we all hide from each other, by mutual consent? Or do we share the same secret without knowing it? Wear the same disguise?"

I check in with fb a few times a week, to see what the out of town kids and grandkids might be up to. And the messaging feature is a good way to communicate long distance. I now have a skype phone# and we can video chat, sometimes, too.

Other than that, FG is about my only "Social Media"

I leave the browser up during the workday, and check in every now and again.

When last did you lie on your back on the grass and watch the clouds floating by like when you were a kid?

Now that the weather is turning, we don't go lay in the grass, much, but we have taken my lunch breaks out to the back porch this week, and watched sparrows and other birds getting settled in for the season.

How often in the last year have you looked up at the sky at night and maybe seen a falling star?
I can't go outside at night without stopping to look at what the stars have to show me.

Thanks for asking.

facebook for me is to keep in contact with family abroad.

but I understand what you are getting at JJ.

I find it difficult these days to talk to people at work during a cigarette break, because they are all checking their damn facebook on their phones!

My beginnings online weren't anything about socializing. It was because I loved to idea of having a place where I could give my opinion on a variety of subjects. It was also very interesting to learn about other places. After I got here, I then made friends with some very nice people. :)

I often wonder the same thing....what is missing in our lives to draw some so completely into a cyber world? I do still get involved face to face with people and love it. The Dog Park brings me in touch with countless people and their pets and my business has me interacting on a professional level eye to eye. And heaven knows I have gazed at stars and been in awe of the simple flower.

I can say for myself I first 'found' the internet when I was looking to improve on my writing skills. I would say I have always used it as a mean to better myself. I currently have enrolled on an on-line photography class! But my social sites are very few.

But here on the internet, looking to improve my writing skills is also when you and I first met, over six years ago. My writing skills may need some polishing but I did find my *Best and Closest Companion/Friend* in You. :-4

So maybe there are some benefits in cyber?:-6

BTW...I luv the quote You used!

Jj I was just looking at my avatar and I realized that I'm only 65 posts from reaching 10,000. :guitarist I also see that I had my 6 year anniversary here back in February. It seems like such a long time ago. This was my very first forum. I didn't even know there was such a thing until I ran across this one. I also remember that I met you after only 4 days here! :sneaky: :D (((((((HUG))))))
