The House of Soviets

Citizen Piilu, late of Canada & now it seems of Estonia, had a plan to go to Kaliningrad & wanted to know what to do there.

I didn’t want go off topic on his thread so I started this one instead.

The House of Soviets, dubbed “the ugliest building on Russian” soil is in Kaliningrad and is built on the site where the Königsberg Castle stood before it burned to the ground.

An army veteran who was in the Red Army in 1945 claimed that a part of the Amber Room treasure was in the castle but the site is now under the House of Soviets and was never excavated to confirm or deny his claim.

Yeah right, the Russians would like just leave treasure buried under an abandoned empty shell of a building!

Incidentally, there is a very nice Radisson Hotel close by if you’re planning to visit.
