I knew It...

Post by Oscar Namechange »

Apologies If I appear smug.

Those who may have seen my Facebook post a few days ago would have seen that I said I fully expected William Roache to be found not guilty.

It's just been announced that he has been found NOT guilty on all charges.

Nothing In that trial added up.

As his defence argued, Invariably, rapists and sex abusers have committed acts prior to the allegations and have continued abuse after the allegations. Here you had a man with an unblemished life before the allegations and for 50 years after the so called act.

Yet off the back of Operation Yewtree and the Savile abuse case, this 81 year old man was dragged through the courts over allegations that they allege happened 50 years ago. And after the Daily Mail published that the BBC were paying victems compensation.

While William Roache has had his life and career destroyed by media, his accusers remain anonymous.

This Is a disgusting practice that needs new laws.

I'm not saying every high profile celebrity accused will or has been Innocent but Imagine If this was your Father or Grandfather labelled a rapist by media before any evidence Is heard In court?

Imagine your 60 year career and all your charity work trashed for what? Money ? By women you have never seen In your life before.

During the trial, the judge ordered the jury to find him not guilty on one charge because the woman couldn't even remember what she'd tol police a year earlier.

Too right Freddie Starr Is suing his accuser for ruining his career and family life for similar allegations.

Laws need to be changed to prevent this again. For one, the vile practice of police Informing media of high profile arrests needs to be stopped right now until after the verdicts.

I can only commend William Roache and his family for their dignity throughout this circus.

Well, as soon as one of his accusers said in court that she had no real recollection of the actual sexual assault taking place, you just had to wonder.

The tragedy is they have the anonymity to continue their lives but he will always wear the stigma of the accusations.

It's quite right what he said though. There are no winners in this
"He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire."

My own personal experience adds to my Indignation.

After my arrest for common assault and criminal damage, I was arrested again. I never denied grabbing the war memorial vandal yob by the collar and throwing his bike In the road to teach him a lesson but I was arrested again because apparently, according to some 14 year old who claimed he was there on the day, I punched him In the stomach. Growing media support was gathering pace and I was astonished when upon leaving the police station, It was all over the newspapers. And we were soon Informed by the local paper, who exactly made that call to the papers.

The Incident happened outside a parade of just 6 shops yet despite Independent adult witness's who testified each, neither saw this happen. One woman was one end of the parade of shops, the other, the other end. Both gave an account of witnessing the confrontation with the ring leader but neither saw this 14 year old.

That didn't bother me... I knew I'd be found not guilty... too many flaws In the police case and his statement didn't tie In with any of the other youths. In fact my lawyer had a damn good laugh at his statement and the Inability by the arresting officer to spot the flaws and contradicting stories.

But for a year before It went to trial, that newspaper article was out there before any evidence had been heard In court. I was well known In the area and there could have been serious ramifications because of police running to the media before any court hearing.

My arresting officer offered me a deal... Take a caution for the two and they'd drop the criminal damage charge and public order offence...

In court, a year later, the evidence by this 14 year old was laughable and I was found not guilty.... he remains anonymous !!!!!!

This behaviour by police has to be stopped.

People forget... It's not just the person being accussed that has their lives turned upside down but their families and children.

Past and present Coronation Street cast members began giving their support for him soon after he was cleared, but slammed the 'wasteful' prosecution'.

'THERE ARE NO WINNERS': BILL ROACHE'S EMOTIONAL STATEMENT

Actor William Roache leaves Preston Crown Court after being found not guilty

'I would like to thank all those who have supported me during this situation. First and foremost ITV Granada. I thank them for their loyalty and support all the way through.

'I would like to thank my management Champions UK without whom this would not have been possible and in particular John Hayes who has shown himself to be so much more than just a good friend.

'I have just got one thing to say, in these situations there are no winners and I think we should all be much kinder to ourselves. Now if you excuse me I would like to get back to work.'

It came just months after Michael Le Vell was also cleared of child sex offences.

His QC told the judge she would be applying for the defendant's legal costs to be paid by the taxpayer.

No William...The Tax payer should not pay your legal costs... your accusers should.

Shows what a pile of crock the allegations were.... The jusy took just 6 hours to clear him on all charges... that speaks volumes.

Very true.

The other fail is, even when (in some cases like rape) it turns out the so called "victim" lied, the accusing story has already gone out.

People will remember the accusing story a lot of the time, not the fact that it ended up to be a lie.

It also makes it a lot more difficult for true rape victims.

Indeed, why put it on the tax payer ? The accusers started the whole thing, let them pay!

It is good that high profile celebs are being targetted in this series of cases, in as much that something might be done to protect all men in the same position in future.

The Dave Lee Travis case seems to be going the same way.

The Dave Lee Travis case seems to be going the same way. Yes, I agree... and then we have the Rolph Harris case due to come up soon.

I know from my own personal experience the stigma. Yes, I was found not guilty, even the judge noted the Inconsistencies In evidence In his full summing up but for a year, there were people out there who thought I had punched a 14 year old. There will always be people who will think I got off because of my lawyer, but then they wern't In court to hear how farcical his account was or hear the judge highlight the flaws In evidence.

As for William Roache... people also think the minute the trial Is over, your life goes back to normal. They have absolutely no Idea of how long It takes to get over something like that.

I was angry, very angry for a long time with this 14 year old... I was ' How dare he do that to a complete stranger, how dare he do that to my family. Eventually, I came to understand that at 14 years old, he hadn't the maturity to understand what the ramifications of lying like that could have done to my family. Yet these women are adults... there's no excuse. I also came to the conclusion that what we all believed to be total stupidity by the arresting officer not to see the flaws gave him more milage.... Oh and worse...I got a call from one of the newspapers telling me a woman had phoned In with something that could help with the trial... we rang her to be told her kids had come home saying he was bragging to all and sundry In school how stupid the police officer was and now he was going to get thousands In compensation..... yeah right... dream on kid.

Dave Lee Travis is CLEARED of 12 counts of indecent assault but could face retrial over two others | Mail Online

Dave Lee Travis cleared of 12 Sexual assault cases. Two were unable to reach a verdict and police are re-considering re-trying these two.

Hasn't enough money been wasted and lives destroyed ?

I believe In the case where a serial rapist Is being tried, past victims who never Involved the police at the time can help catch a rapist..... but to try a man for grabbing someone's bum 30 years ago ????

I'm not talking about serious violent rape, but surely there should be a time limit of sexual Indecency cases after a certain time.

The 12 cases where he was cleared... sorry but no-one will ever convince me that after 30 years these women only came forward off the back of the Savile case looking for money.
