Farewell, Mr Mandela
Nelson Mandela, former South African president and anti-apartheid leader, dies at 95 | Fox News
The man was an inspiration, and probably smoothed the transition from the old Aprathied regime in South Africa.
I am sure there are some differing opinions, but from what little I have read, it could have been very different if not for him.

Farewell, Mr Mandela
He was a great man. I can't imagine being able to forgive his captors after all that time in prison, but he did.
Farewell, Mr Mandela
Another commie bites the dust.
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.

There was/is a perception that when Madiba dies, the whites in RSA are gonna be murdered in their beds.
Take a look at any news channel you like and you will see that black and white are united in their grief and are together celebrating NM's life.

Beautiful words as usual from you JJ. Whose "perception" was that, I wonder?

It is a widely held belief/rumour.
Put about I suspect by white supremacists.
There is........ I believe still an underlying unease in SA, with violence toward white farmers.
I don't know how common it is, I don't have a lot of faith in much of the news we read........or don't get to read..... due to suppression of news.
SA is not the most stable and safest countries in the world.

Farewell, Mr Mandela
In 1994 The Republic of South Africa "officially" became a democracy when a non-racial government formed by the ANC came to power.
However some time before that when FW De Klerk and the white National Party were still in power, most of the really hurtful legislation had been expunged from the statute book. I'm referring to the Immorality Act which made sex across the colour line illegal, the Mixed Marriages Act which forbade whites from marrying people of colour, and the Group Areas Act which forced each racial group to reside in specifically demarcated areas.
So by the time that the late Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was released from prison, people of all colours were living together, going to school together, playing sport together and freely marrying and having sex together.
The result of this is that there is right now living in South Africa an entire generation who has never lived under "Apartheid." Black, white and coloured kids and young adults work, play and socialise together simply because they have been doing so all their lives. I once asked a white kid of about eight or nine what his black friend was like. "He's just like me," he replied, "except he's black."
So I would not pay much attention to those South Africans who have emigrated as they did so hastily and without a great deal of rational thought. They would offer the excuse that "there lives were in danger" in an attempt to justify their silliness.
Of course there is crime here, of course there is corruption here, of course there are areas where it would not be safe to be on a dark night ... this is after all a third world country in Africa.
But there is also a great deal of love here, a great deal of tolerance, a great deal of understanding and a great deal of togetherness ... As much and perhaps even more than you would find in your average European country.
I watch Sky News and CNN every day and sometimes when watching and listening to their reports on the horrific crimes committed there have to pinch myself to make sure that these are actually happening in so called "civilised" countries.
After watching a British soldier chosen by Allah being hacked to death in broad daylight in a street, given the number of Muslims living there, I might be concerned if I lived in London.
Crime knows no boundaries and is seldom if ever confined only to certain places, towns and countries. One could be concerned enough to easily want to leave any country if such an atrocity occurred on a regular basis.,

That is quite remarkable. We had a similar experience in the US, but not without troubles, which exist to this day. But that's us, not the Rainbow Nation.

Wouldn't it be nice to confine it to local communities of regular folk as they go about their business, working , raising children?

I was watching TV when Mandela walked out and made that first speech, the white supremacists had every reason to be terrified that the blacks would take revenge on them had mandela called for it there would have been a bloodbath. Compared to the likes of reagan and thatcher who did their best to sustain the south african regime he is a giant.

So the signatories to the declaration of independence were godless communists were they? No wonder the religious right want to tear up the constitution.
So how is the fightback against communism going in america these days? Must really annoy you that everybody gets to vote no matter who or what race they are and people you think of as inferior to you have the same rights.

Having lived in london when catholic terrorists were setting off bombs in the name of freedom and witnessed protestants terrorising Catholics in the name of protecting their faith I would say people are the same the world over they just need a not necessarily sane reason to hate each other.

Do you even know what a communist is? Don't you know sometimes it's better to keep your mouth shut than to sound ignorant? That your flippant answers can seem foolish? Where is there a Cold War going on? Who is Not trading with China? (& by the way, there is no actual communist government on earth)

Make up your mind, either people who believe all are equal and entitled to live in freedom are communists, in your opinion, or they are not. If they are then By those lights the declaration of independence is a communist manifesto.

If you don't believe all men are your equal the you either believe you are somehow superior to some categories of people, presumably because of race or creed or colour. racist or otherwise. I can't see you (not that I know you of course so I am merely picking up on what you have posted) believing anyone is your better.

Have you ever responded to a straight question with a straight answer ?
The reason I ask is people come to conclusions about you based on your posts, but many of your posts are evasive or ill defined, can be read several ways, causing people to believe you are an old fashioned sort of guy with old fashioned attitudes, some think you are racist.
Let us clear up this confusion please.

I have no idea as to what your personal attitude may be towards racism or racists and can only draw some sort of a conclusion based on your "dissection" of my post.
You chose to make light of what I wrote in what might easily be interpreted as being in a rather facetious manner.
However I have always accepted that it is the democratic right of every individual to have and freely express their own opinion on any subject they wish.
Take care now and have an awesome day!

As I said, i don't know South Africa, but in my mind, there must be some who have no qualms exploiting racial differences like is done here.
Me too.
might? It would be a lot easier, maybe, for us if we lived in the area, had personal contact to better gauge, I suppose.
Crime is not confined, to be sure.
Wouldn't it be nice to confine it to local communities of regular folk as they go about their business, working , raising children?
I have no idea as to what your personal attitude may be towards racism or racists and can only draw some sort of a conclusion based on your "dissection" of my post.
You chose to make light of what I wrote in what might easily be interpreted as being in a rather facetious manner.
However I have always accepted that it is the democratic right of every individual to have and freely express their own opinion on any subject they wish.
Take care now and have an awesome day!

Do you even know what a communist is? Don't you know sometimes it's better to keep your mouth shut than to sound ignorant? That your flippant answers can seem foolish? Where is there a Cold War going on? Who is Not trading with China? (& by the way, there is no actual communist government on earth)

Farewell, Mr Mandela
Really interesting article, thanks. Cuba is not a threat, our trade & borders should be open to them, & vice-versa, that would be of great help to the Cuban people and ourselves.
Farewell, Mr Mandela
I couldn't agree more and the author of that article even said that their economy would go supernova if we could interact in free trade again. Can you imagine a max cap on your weekly salary, much less at $20? You'd be basically working for free. I don't understand how that works, does the state provide room and board?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu won’t be attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service.
He claims he can't justify the expense of like seven million Shekels when all costs are taken into account.
Madiba was always a strong supporter of the Palestinian people so this is probably a diplomatic face-saver.

I believe I have. In fact at times I have gone to great length, when I really cared.

You waffle as much as your arch rival Ahso....
What we all want to know is why you don't like Obama............is it cos he's black?
Remember this thread is about Mandela, the only similarity between Obama and Mandela is their colour.

I was going to ask you Bruv, to Shut Up & delete this, but TD did it for me. Meaning: did you expect a different answer than the one he gave?

Well written. I don't know this guy Zakes Mda who seems to speak from some personal knowledge, at least brings Mandala into some realm of being a human.
