Nope, I wouldn't do that even with a zombie horde chasing me.

This is how boring I am... I just started a bucket list and I've only got two items on it so far. I want to see fireflies and I want to visit Las Vegas. I'm only about a day's drive from LV so that's an easy one and I just need to go east of Kansas to find some bugs. I was reading online that you seldom see fireflies west of Kansas. Weird, right?

Great music.

Snooze, fireflies or lightning bugs as we called them, were a great part of my childhood summers. We could stay outside in the evening until it was dark enough for the lightning bugs to come out. Then we'd gather some in a jar and take them into the bedroom when we went to bed to watch them flash in the dark. If you flashed them with a flashlight, they would flash back at us! A thrill only a 7 year old can truly appreciate, I guess.

I have been told that we have lightening bugs in Colorado, too, but have not seem them here.

They are supposed be in the Arkansas River valley, near Salida and Buena Vista.

I have never been in that area at night time.

I may have to make special trip.

Loved Tabby's story. I remember those evenings well.

Back to the OP, eh, no.

I have dived off cliffs and off the flight deck of an aircraft carrier into the water. I have even jumped out of perfectly good airplanes.

Height doesn't scare me. Well, not much.

I have had too many ropes come undone or break, to trust one for something like that, I think.

I think I'd pass on that rope swing. It looks like fun, but I think I've used up all my good luck.

You can see in all of the face shots, every one of them has that moment where they have decided that wasn't the best idea they ever had. Then, the rope takes hold, and the relief is almost palpable.

At night, they're easier to see.

Coincidentally, one of the inside page headlines of yesterday's local newspaper said:

FIREFLY FESTIVAL IS SATURDAY AT HIGH BRIDGE

The article read:

High Bridge State Park invites families to bring dad out to High Bridge the night before Father's Day (June 15) and enjoy the spectacular sight of synchronous fireflies by the thousands in the treetops below the High Bridge. Craig Guthrie, the park's chief ranger, will give a brief talk about these curious insects with their abdomens aglow. Bring your camera, as you'll want to record this curious event of nature. Waverly Garner, the Park's AmeriCorps volunteer, will guide guests starting at 8:30 PM from the parking lot on River Road. The distance to High Bridge is approximately one mile from this parking lot. The event is free, but a parking fee applies at the River Road parking lot. Be sure to bring drinking water and be prepared to stay out after dark.
