Is it just me or do these images cause concern for the average man in the street ?
As I observed in another thread about the mourning friend wearing a skirt for a lost bet at a soldiers funeral, we Brits do things very differently.
It is not that we haven't had lots of experience of bombs and threats of bombs in many towns through out the country, I cannot see us putting up with this sort of carry on, whatever the authorities told us.
Some of the other videos are just as frightening

In fairness our police don't have the same kind of possibility that ordinary householders may be heavily armed and ready to open fire. Ypu don't really know what was going on so it's hard to judge. I dare say of the boston bombers had opened fire on the crowd with automatic weapons and probably killed more people instead of planting bombs their right to carry arms would be being defended and the pointlessness of background checks highlighted.
People are daft - I saw a bomb incident where the bomb disposal vans were turning up, police were starting to cordon off the street and people were running towards them to see what was happening. I just kept going in the other direction. There might be a bomb let's go look? You have to wonder.

As far as I can see, didn't the Governor of Massachusetts declare Martial Law on Friday without actually calling it that? What would have happened if citizens did not stay in their homes that day? Would they have been arrested? Was it Martial Law by consent of the populace?
I have an eerie feeling about a future I probably won't live to see. Or will I? Things happen real fast these days.
I wrote the above in the thread called "who reads this garbage". I agree with what you said gmc, but nonetheless that day was troubling for many reasons, not the least being the appearance of police state, albeit for a "good" cause.

I am hoping for lawsuits and huge payouts. There is zero excuse, and far as I know, no legal precedent for going door to door ordering people out of their homes.

Perhaps if they weren't so inept they would have built better bombs which could have caused much more death, injury and damage than what happened. Possibly even get away with it. At least get a better head start for the run.

The two brothers suspected in the Boston Marathon bombings, who police say engaged in a gun battle with officers early Friday after a frenzied manhunt, were not licensed to own guns in the towns where they lived, authorities said on Sunday.
Reuters
I suspect the bombs were also illegal under local laws.
According to the Brady Bunch,
Massachusetts has strong gun laws that help combat the illegal gun market, prevent the sale of most guns without background checks and reduce risks to children according to the Brady Campaign.
Funny how that works.:-3

Not everybody watches TV all the time or uses social media, there must have been quite a few people going about their business unaware of that was going on. What would have happened if you were unaware of the instructions to stay indoors and bumped in to this bunch? Don't know about you but my first reaction to being told to halt and put your hands on your head would be to ask - what?

Im glad it isn't only me that thought this was way over the top.
I lived in London suburbs during the Irish troubles (Trust the English to understate) when they were blowing up Guardsmen on their horses, and blowing up Pubs just because they could. There were regular false alarms on Motorway bridges, shutting down main routes while they checked it out.
I cannot remember anything coming near a Lockdown.
I hate to relate the two subjects (not really) but........what did y'all want the right to bear arms for ?
Could 'They' have done this in another state where 'Rights' are more in your face ?
Stormfront thinks this is a test for when 'They' take over, judging the compliance of the citizenry.
The cheering when the 'Masters' allowed the people onto the streets was unreal, and believe me I am no conspiracy theorist.

If this would have happened to me and my family I would probably still be in jail for arguing with the police about raising my hands and being frisked for no reason. Then when they start making my wife and kids put their hands behind their heads and frisking them, I'm sure I would have been face planted. Having many guns in my house, I'm sure I would have had some loaded and readily available when hearing of a possible bomber hiding out in my area. Who knows how many years in prison I would be facing. Either that or rich after the law suit.

The 'Sheeple in Boston' today (where tomorrow ?) happy and compliant to put their personal liberty at stake for the cause, and then to cheer as if their team had won a domestic championship, erroneously labelled a World competition.

I think you're being a bit uncharitable, the US is not used to terrorist attacks but are used to nutters with assault rifles. If you thought you might be facing that plus one of your colleagues had just been killed by the man you were hunting wouldn't you be a bit nervous and perhaps heavy handed and not really care what anybody else thinks? How polite would you be in those circumstances. We have armed police as well and I suspect they don't piss about either.

I have re watched the capturing of a lone man hiding in a boat in a back yard, found by thermal imaging on a helicopter.
The amount of shots fired is disproportional to the immediate threat.

I had a word this afternoon with my daughter in Iowa.(She was phoning to see how Dad was, so I gave her a robust discussion)
I mentioned the lock down, she thought it was fantastic how no expense was spared to get the bad guy.
I reminded her of her time living in London when the bad guys were being sought by our unarmed police, the bad guys that killed many civilians over a long period in many different towns, I asked he what she thought might have happened if they had tried to 'Lock down' London.
Apparently she hadn't seen the images I had seen so I described them. They are swat teams she said. I asked what if our goverment had sent swat type teams into London. She said they are local police not government. I asked if she saw the apprehension of the suspect hiding in the boat and the barrage of shots, she hadn't.
I asked her how that might have ended in the UK.
She did say that you guys in the states tend to do stuff your own way and refuse to change. For instance the whole world has gone metric, except the US of A.
Any problems I have with my wife are cultural, a difference in attitude to general everyday things, that cultural difference is evident with our special relationship friends from across the pond.

I think you all have it wrong.
There was already a hostage situation.
A cop was shot
explosives thrown from a moving vehicle.
One suspect run over by a desparate second, who then disappears into a specific neighborhood.
The way those folks were coming out of the house is the way we always see hostages exiting a situation.
The logical thought process for the cops was that this suspect had and would again, given the opportunity, take a hostage.
A hostage cannot be relied on to tell you they are being held, can they?
Get everyone out of the house before you search it.

I can tell you I will be a problem as much as I can, short of getting shot.Yeah, that's a good idea. You become a problem, the police become more of a problem and everyone escalates the mood of the situation. Your wife takes your back along with perhaps some other family members and suddenly you're all in the local jail being cavity searched, your name gets to the media anyway, your life is examined and friends and relatives are harassed. Good move!.
But the point made by Flopstock is even more compelling than that. That you completely misread the situation, and cause a stir when the police are there, not to treat you as a criminal, but in an endeavor to protect you and your family. And all because you wanted to sound like Chuck Norris on a forum.
And see, misreading a situation is not all that bad unless you refuse to listen to reason and have firearms at your disposal.
The police, don't forget, are nervous and angry as it is.
Piss poor decisions! Why not take a calm and reasonable approach to the situation instead of assuming everyone is violating your "liberty"? What's causing your's and my freedoms to deteriorate is the tensions created by guns in the society.
Problem is, what am I suppose to do?
Maybe I want to go down in a blaze of glory, but I really doubt my wife would feel the same.
Say we both decide to load up and resist to the bitter end.
Main Stream Press labels us as nut cakes. Our families are harassed. Our histories are examined under a microscope. Nothing is to small to put us under a negative light.
Long story short, there is a time to hold them and a time to fold them.

They're vulnerable too, and they know it. The video certainly makes that quite evident.
Now, lets say a bunch of gun slingers in the neighborhood misread the situation and begin taking shots at the police. Imagine the chaos that would ensue.

I was in a humpy in Lightning Ridge when all this was panning out I'd missed so much news I didn't even know that Thatcher bitch was dead (I really wanted to be in an Irish pub on her funeral day )
But thanks to satalites I got to see the longest most boring cop show ever. And then I sat there thinking...what the heck are they cheering about? Why are policeman yelling "USA USA USA"? what the **** was all that about? This teen and his (obviously) influential brother who (obviously ) had come under the influence of a paramilitary organisation, of which, influences it's soldiers in the same way any soldier is desensitised are now the devils? They made bombs that I could make in my shed......our kids could make!!! All I could ask my new friend was . 'I wonder if americans will see what distruction a bomb causes in a built up area in iraq or pakistan or afghanistan? Or will they just turn away and not care even though they can see it for themselves now? " He agreed.
And Bruv? The English have always raided Irish homes in the same way these guys have done here . I'ts not exactly foreign to you guys.

Wouldn't have had this situation if they'd done their initial search correctly in the first place. Only twits would have called this a successful operation . He was still at the scene of the firefight. He hadn't gone anywhere and the police told everyone it was okay now? Really? Giving so called terrorists to much credit. lol

But they didn't, did they? Neither did a cop turn around and see a reflection in the window of this house and over react.
I knew we were screwed when we had to start taking our shoes off at the airport.
But this situation, I would expect on my own block, if it were known that a dangerous hostage taker was seen entering my neghborhood.

Out of interest did you see the actual capture, as the guy hide in a boat, discovered by a helicopter with thermal imaging, I would think the volley were more than the total shots fired in London during the whole Irish problem over a period of years.

A couple of things convince me that this guy is just a wacko and not your garden-variety Muslim extremist terrorist. Not only didn't they go for maximum deaths by setting the bombs at the start line rather than the finish, he hid in that boat. He knew as well as anybody that nobody in town was armed. Logically he would have taken a family hostage or something similar.

What I think was the biggest gaff of all though, was after they captured the poor sod and the president made another speech ...I was sitting there gobsmacked thinking ...Did that man just say what I thought he said? As I understand it Boston and the surrounding area has very restrictive gun laws. Of course that doesn't mean that every single person was unarmed, but the odds lean that way.
