Pajama Bottoms in Public

This new trend of wearing fleece or flannel pajama bottoms in public ... what do you think of it? I saw at least 5 or 6 people in public yesterday wearing them and they seemed perfectly okay with themselves. It seems mostly to be teens & 20s as usual that have taken up this fad and although itâ€™s still new to me, I donâ€™t find myself snickering like I do when I see the jeans waistband hanging to the knees look. Thatâ€™s not a good look on anyone. I canâ€™t see myself ever wearing pj bottoms in public but Iâ€™d be tempted to wear them for a quick car trip where I didnâ€™t have to get out of the car, like going to a drive through bank teller or something along that line.

What do you think? Is it disrespectful to wear pajama bottoms in public? I did a quick search online to see what others thought and found more negative comments than positive.

I suppose I weigh in as neutral about it ... more bemused than anything else.

I first saw it 10 years ago in Massachusetts. It looked so cute, I've done it myself! Not lately.

Mom used to say things like "make sure your underwear is clean in case you get hit by a bus!" which made me laugh years ago as I wore a Raincoat, shoes & nothing else to purchase The Sunday New York Times. Not lately.

I've seen young women wearing them at work. Also the tight tight pants. Not for me, but some of the girls do look cute in them.

Yeah, they wear them out in public where I live but also with those fuzzy slipper type booties and a hoodie for a top. Real cute look. :wah: :rolleyes:

I've seen alot of girls/women wearing PJ's bottoms for years now.

PJ bottoms would not be proper work attire for any company.

I have several of those velour sets - pants with draw string waist & jacket.

I find them very comfortable - easy to wear for traveling especially. I usually throw a set on to run to a store.

I think the PJ bottom is sloppy - lazy. along with the PJ bottom is usually a large sloppy T-shirt.

NO - I don't like the look.

The kids wear them to school sometimes even though they're against dress code.

If I were to try it, I'm sure a couple of nice yet very large men in white uniforms would give me an injection of happy juice and escort me away.

I know what you mean. The Times just isn't worth the paper it's printed on nowadays. :yh_wink

I can't help but wonder what folks from my grandfather's generation would think about them.

He never even came out for breakfast until he was dressed and had his tie on, properly set, and didn't go outside without coat and hat.

Dress has became far more casual over the years, and I think we may have gone a bit too far.

Why are they sloppy when worn in the privacy of your own home ? I don't get that. Home Is the one place where you are in your own space and should be relaxed. If wearing anything Is more comfortable for you, why Is It sloppy ?

I have only ever seen pyjama's In public once and I have to say I was appalled. It wasn't early morning, It was half 3 In the afternoon and she had kids In the car so I'm guessing she'd just done the school run. She breezed into our local Tesco Epress In not only pyjama's but the dressing gown and slippers also.

That's no way for police officers to dress.

Funny enough when I saw the woman in my local store In the middle of the day, I could just Imagine what my Father would have had to say. When my eldest brother first got married, they stayed with us and on the first day his wife came to the breakfast table with rollers In her hair. My Father told her he didn't care what she did In her own home but here we don't come to the table like that !!! From that day on she believed my Father was a snob.

It used to be considered common for women to smoke in the street...nowadays it's the only place you can smoke

I think PJs in public are fine, but only for the young. If I wore them out, I'd be considered senile.

Yeah, that's my take on it as well. Just kind of slovenly as a fashion statement overall. (I'd be mortified to do it myself, but then I'm a prude!) The girls in high school do it all the time. Years ago I gave up on policing that, though, because:

1. You end up being the "Clothing Police" and spending stupid amounts of time enforcing that rule.

2. The kids will have a dress code pretty much for the rest of their lives in the working world, let them have some fun now....

3. I have much bigger fish to fry.

My husband came out of hospital having had radical open surgery for cancer. He had been cut from his naval to his anus and the surgeon had to carry out major re-plumbing of his bowel and bladder. It took him a year to recover from the surgery alone and the only thing he could wear at home that didn't cause him discomfort was pyjama's.... so he was just being sloppy was he ?

Oh my heavens NO! Home is another story altogether! I can't wait to jump into my cool sweatpants and a T-shirt after wearing a tie or suit at school all day! Especially if you have medical problems. (My wife has a LOT of those and I never say a word if she doesn't dress in the morning. She might be going right back to bed. I just compliment her on how nice she looks if she musters the strength to dress up!)

that's completely different than wearing PJ's out for a day in public.

I do know a female who wears PJ bottoms to work - it's sloppy & lazy

I'm more of a Cargo Pants kind of girl fro lazy days although i am not actually unloading any cargo.

I'd much rather see people in pajama bottoms than in holey jeans, saggy jeans, mini skirts, etc. I wouldn't do it myself, but I have no problem with anyone who does.
