:wah: Although I do observe your Triple Crowns over the pond Kev and our betting Offices In England will take bets for It now....

The Gold Cup Is the very most prestigious of Grade 1 Steeple chasing races over 3 miles 2 and a half furlongs and Incorporates 22 fences run as the highlight of the 4 day festival at Cheltenham in March. Open to Grade 1 horses over 5 years old, and Is the most valuable non-handicap race.

All season, the superstars of Grade 1 have been racing In the most prestigious races such as The Betfair, The Lexus and The King George. Now those champions will all face each other for the final showdown and final accolade.

It seems every big race over the past few months, I seem to be repeating myself when i say It's just too close to call this year and the line up for The Gold Cup Is no different this year. It seems even the handicapper Is having problems deciding their marks.

I have never seen such a regal line up of superstars and I have already booked my tickets In anticipation of seeing these giants of Steeple chasing aristocracy In the parade ring.

We're a sentimental bunch us National Hunt devotee's... we follow our favourites around the country like an old slapper hunting down Man U players In a night club and as they get Injured or retire, we mutter words such as ' we'll never ee the like again' .

While we mourn the absence of the likes of Kauto Star, Denman, Imperial Commander, Master Minded, Big Bucks to name a few from the festival, there Is often the case that a few exciting new young pretenders to thrones will emerge on the scene, a few that are so outstanding and breathtaking that all the excitement of seeing them builds again and new fans are won.

This year, I'm not the only one who has been absolutely blown away by some of the performances of superstars In the making and to name some of the most exciting we'll see during the 4 days are:

Darlan

Simonsig

Sprinter Sacre

Sir Des Champs

Voller La Vadette

Dynaste

Taquin Du Seuil.

Flementstar

Hurricane Fly

Zarkander

Wishful Thinking

Grand Crus

It just doesn't get any better !!!

So The Gold Cup field... It appears the Handicapper has had a job marking this filed also.

First, the bookies favourite although I feel this may change as the big money starts to go on other entrants. Long Run was performing at 170/180 but has been awarded 172 after the handicapper believed without the two serious blunders In The King George, he would have won a lot easier... for me, I don't think his jumping will ever Improve enough . I've always believed his success's have been down to his cruising speeds and luck. Typical of French horses who are trained over lower fences, he needs to Improve the jumping to compete against some of the others here. At this stage, again, I would absolutely rule him out for me.

Captain Chris has been upped from 162 to 169 after his close second In The King George.

The King George was the test for Grand Crus after his breathing operation following two very dissapointing outings In the RSA and the Betfred. Finishing 3 rd actually looked the best horse of the race until I suspect the mud on the course just slowed him down. On better, firmer ground at Cheltenham, I would rate him highly after his staying performance In the King George. He stays at a mark of 157

Silviniaco Conti winner of The Betfair Chase on heavy going Is another who should be quicker on firmer ground. He's also rated 172

Tidal Bay at 171 after finishing 2nd In The Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury on heavy ground ran the race of his life to win The Lexus Chase this week. He remains at 171.

First Lieutenant after a close 2nd to Tidal Bay In The Lexus is marked 170

Flemenstar after his win In The John Durkan Chase at Punchestown Is marked 169

Sir Des Champs see's a big Improvement from 162 to 169

Bobs Worth Is at 171 after winning The Hennessy Gold Cup

On the day, whatever happens, there's only going to be 3 to 4 lbs between them and I can't see the weights making huge differences. I think It'll be more down to the fitness of the horses and the condition of the ground.

The bookies are offering 16/1 for Dynaste should he run for the Gold Cup.

I have to say that along with Darlan, Sprinter Sacre and Sir Des Champs this is one of the most exciting Novice's I've seen In many year and a horse that Is just sheer class.

The question Is, will David Pipe risk the 6 year old facing the likes of Bobs Worth In the Gold Cup or send him straight to the RSA Chase this year? Anti-post betting see's Dynaste the clear favourite for the RSA at 5/2 ....... either way...... good each way bet for the Gold Cup or a certain winner of the RSA.... my money will be on him.

Eight weeks to go and Cheltenham Is alive and buzzing with excitement...

I am just so excited at seeing all of these Grade 1 steeple chasing champions over the four days.

Even If you don't like horse racing but like horses, this vid Is worth a watch... It's last years superstars and champions who will all be there In eight weeks over four days to defend their crowns minus Big Bucks due to Injury... Names In this video that I've written so much about before with some of my favourite chasers

I've just heard from neighing circles that Kauto Star May make a guest appearance and better still... may escort the field out onto the track for the Gold Cup... how awesome !!!

Congrats to who made this video for you tube... This has to be a Kauts devotee... the way he's matched the footage with the lyrics Is spot on In only a way a Kauto devotee would make sense of.... just brilliant..

As I've said before... as we mourn the loss of our favourites and mutter ' we'll never see the like again'... you see a horse so spectacular that stands miles apart In class, jumping. stamina and stays... a horse that's so spectacular that you just know that this Is a new young pretender that Is a champion In the making.... and today I witnessed that again with a 5 year old novice at Warwick...

The New One

Just minutes after his performance this afternoon, facebook was buzzing and alive with posts about this horse from people like me who were just blown away by him..

With just 7 starts as a novice he has now won 6 of those starts and now heads to the Cheltenham Festival In March. Winning today by 16 lengths, he never even came off the bridle and the whip not even drawn... It just doesn't get better than that and i have Immediatly taken 7/1 for him to win In the Neptune Investment Novices Hurdle... now he stands at 6/1 with most betting outlets...

It was so good to see Imperial Commander today on the gallops after being out of action due to Injury for 20 months... all going well, we may just see him again at Cheltenham after all.

Just taken 1/2 for Sprinter Sacre for The Champion Chase at the Festival.......I predict that on the day this will be cut as low as 1/3 as the money piles on. Will be looking for the best price for Quevaga to double up and get a decent return...

SPRINTER SACRE could have to defeat the last two winners of the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the crown he so covets, with both Sizing Europe and Finian's Rainbow among his 16 potential opponents.

The young pretender already seems to rule the 2m chasing division, but the crown would be confirmation of his fantastic ability that has quickly seen him annointed as one of the best ever to operate over a fence.

Cue Card, who has finished one place behind Sprinter Sacre at the last two Festivals, could also reoppose, while Ireland's most exciting chasing prospect Flemenstar also gets an entry.

Sanctuaire, Simonsig, Somersby and William's Wishes add further intrigue, but the field will no doubt be depleted with rivals running scared of Henderson's wonderhorse.

Yep, just got 4/5 with Betfred for Quevaga for the Mares Champion Hurdle... good price, 4/6 and 8/11 at other high street bookies.

Love this little mare who will be going for a 5th consecutive title... along with Caruthers and Kauto stone, she Is the tiniest of hurdlers I've ever seen.... but my god, she has the heart of a Lioness.

But this year, It's no walk over... her main dangers are Une Artiste and Voler La Vedette who gave me a massive fright In the World Hurdle last year when she nearly took out Big Bucks

Blimey !!!!

61 entries for The World Hurdle... all of these won't be able to cut It and will drop out. I predict on the day the field will be more around the 15 to 18 mark.

Even so, the unprecedented number of entries shows goes to show the grip Big Bucks has had on the racing Industry over the past 5 years and no trainer wanting to enter his horse against him. With Big Bucks out of action due to Injury, trainers are literally now champing at the bit to take his crown.

Don't get too comfy... that's what I'd say.... He will be back

A fantastic days racing today at Cheltenham In the trials where some of the big guns raced for Gold Cup entries and ratings.

Absolutely no surprise to see the one they are now calling ' The machine' while others have dubbed him ' The Black Areoplane 'Sprinter Sacre take the Victor Chandler Chase and remain unbeaten. An easy win by 13 lengths, he looked like he had gone to Cheltenham for nothing more than a lark about with some other horses. An effortless performance never so much as breaking a sweat, It seemed Jockey Barry Geraghty could barely hold him on the bridle... and there was Henderson worrying about the extremely heavy ground and going.

For me the most emotional highlight of the day was seeing Imperial Commander not only back on a race course after being out of action for 2 years due to Injury but to see the form that once rated him the 9th greatest steeplechaser In the world. the horse who beat Denman In 2010 and held Kauto Star to a photograph finish.

Coming within half a length at the line he finished second behind Cape Tribulation. Second didn't matter... the boy Is back !!!! and now goes straight to the Gold cup.

Extremely dissapointing performances today for me from Grand Crus and Kauto Stone

Sprinter Sacre It seems has now earned himself a nickname In the racing world.

Only very few get such an accolade and at just 6 years old, a baby In racing terms, he Is now dubbed The Black Aeroplane

Reason... Only fresh air Is beneath him as he takes those fences with his Jockey seeming to literally hold on for dear life... coupled with a cruising speed of approx 38 mph. most believe this horse Is the greatest athlete In racing. at 18 hands, he Is one of the biggest brutes we have ever seen and I can't wait to see him In the parade ring In march.

Thanks to my pal Tracey a proffessional race photographer trading as Turfpics for these wonderful Images.

Further trials for Cheltenham In March saw Hurricane Fly take a hat-trick today In The Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown, Ireland which was pretty much a foregone conclusion ... he will now head straight to Cheltenham.

With Ruby Walsh In the saddle, It was his 14th Grade 1 win and he became the first horse since Istabraq to win this race on more than two occasions.

He's now 5/2 to defend his crown In the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival on 12th March.

If you're going to have a flutter on The Gold Cup then this race Is worth a watch for some of the contenders here raced for The Argento Saturday...

The racing world seems to be buzzing on the prospect of Cape Tribulation giving Bobs Worth a battle for the crown but as i said before, for many of us, just to see Imperial Commander back on a race course after 20 months out was an emotional sight.

I think everything will depend on the day and the ground conditions...

However, I'm sticking my neck out and have made my choices.

RIP DARLAN March 11th, 2007-----February 4th 2013.... SO MUCH PROMISE.... YOU WILL BE SORELY MISSED... A VERY SAD DAY FOR RACING

So.... another trial Saturday with The Irish Hennesy Gold Cup

This Is particualy Interesting to me as two of the big names for The Cheltenham Gold Cup are up against each other.

Flemenstar and Sir Des Champs

It'll be close and I think ground and going will be the major factor....

But for me, I see fit to take 5/4 with paddypower for Sir Des Champs straight win

Followed with a r/v f/c for Sir Des Champs and Flemenstar

Small each way bet on Quel Esprit last years winner with Ladbrooke's best price of 12/1

And please. No more dead horses, please,

Very excited at a day at the races at Saturday at Newbury In the Premier enclosure. Have a new camera so now will spend all week going through the settings ... Yawn

Very excited at seeing Puffin Billy In the 1.15 pm... will look to see what price I can get on the day for him there.

Ballabriggs the 2011 Grand National winner In the 1.50 pm

The 2.25 Is very exciting for me as It features my choice for the Gold Cup In March... Silviniaco Conti straight win here.... but I'll be looking at performances from The Giant Bolster and Little Josh also.

The 3pm.... again, very exciting for me and no question here.... a straight win on Simonsig but I;ll be watching the performance of Wishful Thinking also and will have an each bet.

The 3.35 see's some old favourites of mine but I think It'll be between Swing Bowler and Home Run may go for a r/v f/c but can't wait to see an old favourite Punjabi and Grumeti.

The 16.10........ Just sooo excited about seeing Unioniste straight win but Grouse Lodgeand Real Milan could be the dangers. Hoping to see Our Father return to form also In this race.

The 16.40 I will decide on the day.

eta.... oh nearly forgot... my highlight of the day ???? Denman parading for his fans.... The Tank... It just doesn't get any better than that. My brother the bookie has a pitch on the course... I'm tea girl for the day but it does mean I get access all area's.... Thanks Bro. xxx

Absolutely fantastic news !!!!!

Tricky Trickster The 2009 National Hunt Chase winner after being out for over a year when he fell at Uttoxeter over a year ago sustaining a fracture to the neck, not only back on a race course today but he won !!!!!! Giving me a nice return out of a sentiment bet.

Testament to his connections and Paul Nicholls who got him fully recovered....

And finally

Puffin Billy a non runner In the 1.15... went for Lac Fontana on the day who finished 2nd

Ballabrigs a non runner In the 1.50... went for Barafundle each way who finished 3 rd

I had Swing Bowler each way 3rd In the 3.35

So.... on the day I predicted 4 winners.... 3 seconds, 2 thirds and two correct forecasts.

Will have to start charging for my naps at this rate.....unlike some of the old crap I see by so called pundits on some sites.

So.... The Arkle

A serious speed event and going by statistics the last 9 year old to win this race was Danish Flight in 1988, and before that Sir Ken in 1956. ... that suits my favourite at 7 years .

old.

Overturn the second favourite may see a situation where the favourite won't run and he statistically Is out of the frame at 9 years old which could leave the field open.

But.... 5 to 7 year olds have won the last 19 of 21 renewals given I the favourite runs... again statistically suiting him.

Having fallen short of his 100% trachea wash test, Henderson Is not a man to risk his favourite but It's probable and likely he will address this before March.

Looking at all the stats, the best bets would be a horse In the top 5 of the betting, won last time, was at least 2nd In graded fields, aged 5 to 7 years old and has 2 to 4 chase starts.

All these stats lead to a shortlist of the Henderson duo...

So.... no question for me...... I see fit to take best price of 4/5 with Ladbrookes for the favourite Simonsig and a small each way bet on the other half of The Henderson duo Captain Conan

If Simonsig doesn't run I will switched to Captain Conan and Fago

With the jostling for entries and trials almost done and dusted, I can lay claim to some of the races...

Next.... The Supreme Novices Hurdle

Statistically, the race has only seen 4 favourites win In the past 20 years.

9 out of 10 winners of this race were aged 5 or 6 years old

14 out of 16 had won their last race

8 out of 14 were Irish horses

13 out of 16 horse under a price of 3/1 have been beaten

After an Impressive win for Henderson and McCoy Saturday In the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury the betting has been shaken up by what Is now the favourite My Tent Or Yours However, It was noticed that he didn't find much off the bridle once McCoy let him go. In this fast paced race, that worried me slightly although I Initially believed he'd do well here. Although he's seasoned to Newbury he hasn't encountered the Cheltenham Hill before... something that In my eyes Is essential...

Despite the fact that I like the horse and think great things are afoot or him... I'm looking elsewhere for this race now.

For me, my money will be on Paul Nicholls Dodging Bullets. He has an excellent Cheltenham record and he could make a very strong challenge to the top betting.

At 14/1 best price with paddypower, I see fit to tae the gamble on an each way bet.

Nicky Henderson's Finian's Rainbow will be looking to cement a place at the Cheltenham festival tomorrow ( Saturday ) In the Betfair Ascot Chase.

The winner of last years Queen Mother Champion Chase has had a wind operation after a dismal run at Ascot In November...

On this occassion, although I rate the horse highly, my money will be on Captain Chris straight win.

After his win today, Cue Card ( Ha, only won because Captain Chris blundered the 2nd last fence) Is on his way to the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham.

After the race Colin Tizzard said The Champion Chase would be an option providing Sprinter Sacre failed to show up on the day.... yeah In your dreams :wah:

As It's highly unlikely, Cue Card will go to the Rynair.
