Santa,
Sack Santa? Its time he went anyway. Who believes in Christmas anymore?
Santa,
I still like Santa! Don't sack him! (And I have three almost grown kids.)
If you sack Santa, then you'll have to get rid of:
Fairy tales
Tooth fairy
Easter Bunny
Magical storybooks
Playful imagination
Nursery rhymes
Puppet shows
Nope.
Pragmatic logic has no place in a young child's life.

It gets worse it was actually first seen in a coca cola advert (red and white suit get it)
Americans also gave us teddy bear (teddy roosevelt, liked hunting). For all the blame america gets around the world you have to like a nation that gave us santa and teddy bears, and mickey mouse.

You miserable git. Admit it, in your heart of hearts you want to believe.

Santa,
I have a six year old son that, despite the extreme tight lippedness of me his dad and his ten year old brother, guessed this year "I don`t think there is a santa I think you and dad get the presents and just write santa on the card" all by himself. I thought this was sad for such a little one, but on the other hand it does mean I dont need to explain why mummy lied when he gets older. I then asked him if he still wanted presents from santa, or if he just wanted mum and dad on all of the cards, his reply "yeah well its nice innit" I think that sums up my feeling on it. A lovely tradition that children enjoy. Even for those that dont believe in santa taking him away may be too harsh.Anyway beyond the cost ( which is of your own choosing) what did santa do to you? was there a toy you never got? Did you have a bad experience sitting on his lap perhaps? Maybe a kindly more portly relative dressed up a santa and got stuck in your chimney. Would you ban anything else that is cheery or only pick on the big guy?
Blessed be.

But you didn't lie. It was make-believe, or pretending if you prefer.

I'm not sure about that at all.... however, there are a number of stories or legends
amongst worshippers of God concerning Santa-like characters. One for you - many
years ago, a small boy was in glorious anticipation one Christmas Eve; his
stocking was hanging at the bottom of his bed, which he should have been in
by that time.... as the moonlight shone into the room, his mother tried to get
him to sleep, by saying "If Father Christmas sees that you are still awake, he
might not come!" and so forth. The small boy asked how F.C. would see him in
his room, and a discussion ensued, which turned to Christmas, and and of God
which will have to dsw wait as I've got to go nowe

I like such stories. I also like movies on Santa. It was only yesterday I saw a movie where a boy protects a deer believing that it belongs to Santa's chariot. He succeeds and the deer goes beyond the skies to join the Santa who is waiting for him to start his christomas rounds. I am looking forward to some good Santa movies during the coming christimas.

Santa can be very magical... I still want him around!!
I remember when I first "learned about Santa" an older cousin told me and
I was waaaaay too young to hear... I told him Mom and Dad wouldn't lie
to me I just KNEW they wouldn't lie!! So we went to my Mom, and bless
her, she handled it beautifully, and talked about the SPIRIT of Santa and
giving and I will never forget it
I don't think it has to be all material and spendng a lot, I don't have any
kids but if'n I did, they'd get the toys but then we'd think of ways to give
to others. And give through out the year, too.
So let's keep ol' Santa, huh?

I suppose it depends do you have a religion are you Christian,or Muslim if so and you trully believe your faith then youll tell your kids as soon as possible otherwise its a lie,and it does little in the mass or celebration of Christs birth.
It simply lends itself to the marketplace the almighty goddollar.
Life is more fun if you lighten up a little.

Santa,
My wife has magical memories of santa and wants to do the santa thing with our yet to be born boy. After he is born of course. But I don't want to lie.
ELP have a song that goes someting like Who is the bigger lie jesus or santa
My mom told me that there are lots of Santas. Anyone who gives is a santa. In a way one cold argue that Santa was a Christ. As being being a Christian is about being Christ like.
So in a way as long as there is giving there is santa.
What is wrong with giving?
Another thing a token Christimas gift is best becasue stuff is cheaper after Christmass:)
That is one thing my dad would do is take us to the store after Christmass and load up on bargans. A real santa maximizes his giving:)

Santa,
Every year my daughter asks if Santa exists. I always ask her what she wants to believe. She continues to choose to believe in him and who am I to say she is wrong. This year she said she was starting to doubt. When I asked her if she wanted to believe in him she said 'Yes'. So I reminded her of the year we forgot to send him her Christmas letter. I made it into a paper airplane and we flew it off the balcony. It started to do a nose dive and my spirits were falling with it when suddenly a gust of wind caught it. The letter flew back up about four floors and curved around the edge of the highrise out of sight. If there was enough magic to carry her letter to Santa there is enough magic to keep his spirit alive.

Huh...Since I am the one who said life is more fun if you lighten up a little, I'll respond to this.
(First I must happy dance because I am a senior member! LOL...which really only means that I talk a lot.)
So we have a myth of a guy who sneaks down chimneys and leaves gifts for children because he is so happy about Jesus' birth that he wants to share his joy with people. How is this a bad thing?
If you look to your bible, you will see many instances of joy and celebration and story-telling (myths). Clearly it's not anti-god to feel happiness and share that, or to make a point through a story.
As for the commercialization of Christmas, tell me what isn't commercialized these days? We are capitalists. We accumulate capital. We do that by selling things to other people and collecting their money. Thus we commercialize everything. We buy and sell water in a little bottle, for crying out loud.
Please note that this is a voluntary process...if you don't choose to buy, you don't have to.
The holidays are what you make of it; the traditions you choose to create for your family are about good times, good memories. So, yeah, lighten up a little. Celebrate the good things in life.

I may be wrong, but I think this thread was to bring out the child in us and encourage people to stick up for something that has been debased in it's principles. So, not to say the members are acting like children, you must be advised that to speak against Santa is like trying to take candy from a child...not so simple as the saying is meant to imply. The question is, is it desirable to take the candy away? Candy can rot the teeth but it gives simple joy as well.
I used Christmas once to overindulge in my attempt to relieve guilt for not being home with my child enough. The presents under the tree took four days to open. It was horrible and embarassing. Since then the presents have become secondary to our spending time together and remembering to love and appreciate each other. I am very wary of the commercial aspects. At the age of nine, my daughter already practices the clear your clutter aspects of Feng Shui. We do not equate ourselves with possessions. Yet Christmas is still fun and we do believe in Santa as a figure of compassion and giving.
I would not call you flaky or "too" heavy. There are reasons to be disappointed in the way Christmas is marketed and debased. The more appropriate response may be to ask how you celebrate the holiday.

You can see me? Then my magic is not working! Darn it! Clearly I shall have to sprinkle some baking soda aka fairy dust over the screen to make me invisible!
I often keep my computer running while I do homework online...I pop in and out of this site when I need a break. Soooo, it's more polite to be invisible than to be online when I'm not really here...like that made any sense!

Santa,
I have no kids before I go into this, but I myself am a big kid.
Christmas I go a little overboard on decorations, all old style stuff mainly though and there has to be a colour theme... Mainly just to the extent of one or two colours but not multicolour.
I have santa figurines and not one of them is the red and white santa of modern times, but the ones that make you think Saint Nick, in earthy colours.
Santa shouldn't be sacked though, children today already have so little to believe in and grow up so fast, he's part of childhood innocence.

Santa can not be sacked. He represents a belief which is very important, not as part only of childhood innocence but also of grown ups. In fact grown ups need more innocence in these days of hate and violance.
