Pussy Riot In Russia

Post by koan »

I put it off all day but I just can't resist the headlines.

One of the girls from this punk band that did an impromptu performance subsequently causing a 2 yr conviction for "hooliganism" may be a Canadian citizen. Her husband says she is Canadian and a card exists that seems to prove it but the woman is quite happy to be a rebellious Russian with no claims to consular protection.

It's still the top headline on google news.

They don't like Putin and Putin, apparently, does not like Pussy... Riot, that is.

I doubt there is much real substance to the claims of being a Canadian citizen. It of course can and probably will suddenly morph into a totally legit claim though.

I don't feel too sad about their 2 year sentence, these "artists" have pissed a lot of Russians off. They've assaulted people in the Metro, had orgies in museums and a few other stunts which frankly don't sit well with everyone. These "activists" are a very small part of their society according to my friend across the road. From what I have heard the judges involved in the case took a lot longer than usual to decide on the sentence.

I think that 1 year followed by exile (for their own good) would have been sufficient. Maybe to Canada or even better yet, Britain.

People need to remember, if you're looking for trouble in Russia, you will find it. I guess the west will have some martyrs to worship and Putin gets his 25% military budget increase.

This guy sees it better than most, this has nothing to do with human rights and all that it's political.
