Steel production

Post by spot »

The UK re-lit one of its mothballed steel plants this week, under new Thai ownership.Once the plant is at full capacity it will produce up to 400 slabs of steel a day, each weighing up to 33 tonnes.

BBC News - Redcar SSI plant produces first steel slab

Mainly for export to Thailand by the look of it. The output represents around 0.2% of world production. The UK as a whole produces around 0.6% of world production, rather less than the US imports. The US itself produces around one ninth of China's output.

Fair comment, your Port Kembla mothballed roughly the same capacity last year and what's left there is smaller than the newly re-lit furnace at Redcar.
