June 8th, 1955: Director Billy Wilder sends a telegram to William Gehring, the president of the Catholic Legion of Decency, complaining about the fact that he has to edit down his film The Seven Year Itch. Wilder states that ‘[He does] not have the reputation of having ever been connected with pictures of a lascivious character.’

The film is most iconic for Marilyn Monroe’s iconic billowing white dress scene.
