Anyone else here read Kafka's Metamorphosis?

I wanted to dislike it but I know what he means. Kafka didn't like it either so I feel safe admitting to the first. It's a quick read and it will likely affect you in waves.

I read it in high school as part of a required reading curriculum and neither enjoyed it or got much out of it. I was supposed to consider it a brilliant work but it was too dry for me and in retrospect I realize that at age 16 or 17 it probably required more thought than I was willing to expend at the time. I don't know if I'd get more out of it now or not.

To me, it was a strong statement about how providers create a role for themselves which their dependants won't reciprocate. I hated it because I didn't want to believe it to be true.

I also read it after being a provider who was suddenly disabled.

Very disturbing.

There were other aspects to it that sank in later. I'll ponder a bit and try to recall what made it okay.
