Why is It?
Why are there so many more people that read new posts than care to add their two cents worth? Are they without opinion? Fearful of being critiqued? I read a number of posts and also don't reply, so I understand, but still, when you see 200 + viewing and 40 responses, it makes you wonder.

Those initial seven views are quite possibly from unlisted search engine IP addresses. I'm reasonably sure vBulletin excludes known searches from the count, but what you don't have there is a figure divided into logged-in members and guests, all you get is an amalgamated total.
I agree that clicking open a thread with the mindset of contributing rather than consuming is a positive way to enliven the pace of discussion and I'd applaud it, but we'd like to avoid swathes of "me too" at the same time. Which, overall, we do quite well here. Pace would be good though.

When flower power came along I stood for Human Rights, marched around for peace and freedom, had some nooky every night - we took it serious. [Fred Wedlock, "The Folker"]
Who has a spare two minutes to play in this month's FG Trivia game! ... My other OS is Slackware. Écrasez l'infâme! When you design tactics to maximise suffering on civilian populations and your only constraint is operational rather than moral, you've told the world who you are.

Why is It?
Perhaps they are intimidated by the sheer sparkling intellect on display and don't feel able to meet the standard.

Are you picking on me Lon ?
I am guilty of viewing without commenting, but now you are making me feel bad.
Best I go back and contribute to the debate about electoral change, women drivers and Hyper dimensional design (whatever that is)
What's for dinner today anyway?

No---I wouldn't think of picking on you-----------dinner tonight will be "Chicken Stir Fry With Mixed Veggies"

Sometimes you click on a thread, and it is more fun to read than comment..........

it's just like this thread, 70 views.......7 reply's.......
some just want to read.......
some don't post as they get no response
if you click 'previous thread' at the bottom, whatever thread it lands on is a 'view'
sometimes there isn't anything to say pending on the topic
some do feel intimated...
tons of reasons really.
