That video included only four facts; 1) that Detroit has suffered economically; 2) It named Detroit's Mayors since 1961; 3) the average wage in the automotive industry and 4) that Detroit rode a good wave for a while.. The fact is that the Auto industry was in trouble from foreign competition, GM being the largest, along with making some ass-biting decisions, payed the heaviest price and Detroit just happens to be where GM was located. It's not like the unions caused GM to price itself out of the market, that didn't happen, in fact, one reason GM became the giant it did was because of the part the unions played. How is it leftist policy for a government to put up tariffs in foreign steel to protect the steel industry at the expense of the american car manufacturers. Maybe you can blame the unions to some extent for (sound like British leyland in the seventies actually) but management are hardly blameless are they? You must think that those business decisions occured in a vacuum - absent of any outside influences. It was the progressive leftist policies of putting business on an unequal footing with unions that were the underlying cause. In Conservative Capitalism, govt continually balances the playing field and is oversight and not overseer.

How is it leftist policy for a company to shift production abroad. How is it leftist policy for a government to put up tariffs in foreign steel to protect the steel industry at the expense of the american car manufacturers. Maybe you can blame the unions to some extent for (sound like British leyland in the seventies actually) but management are hardly blameless are they? If american cars were crap compared to foreign cars why is that the fault of government?
You must think that those business decisions occured in a vacuum - absent of any outside influences. It was the progressive leftist policies of putting business on an unequal footing with unions that were the underlying cause. In Conservative Capitalism, govt continually balances the playing field and is oversight and not overseer.
