English Defence League march should be banned, say police chiefs | Mail Online

As I am aware, It Is a legal right to carry out a demonstration or march In the UK.

Whilst Islamic Extremists are free to Insult our Home-coming Troops, they want this banned.

But in reality, their supporters include are a rag tag band of menacing skinheads, Neo-Nazi thugs and convicted football hooligans

....and thats what the Daily Mail calls them

They're a delightful bunch. There's not a single one of them who would have anything constructive to say, lest they run out of usable brain cells

Even the BNP would distance themselves from this lot

Prof Goodwin said: 'The BNP do not want their members in the EDL because it would damage their attempts to appear as a moderate democratic party.

'If their members are running riot around Bradford it's hard for Nick Griffin to go on Question Time and say "we have abandoned violence"'.

However, although I agree with you whole-heartedly, It Is sheer hypocrisy when the UAF and Islamic Extremists can march til their hearts content, yet Police look to stop the EDL.

If we are going to have such regulations, then It must be for all Including the UAF.

It may be wrong of me but I cant bring myself to give a tinkers cuss about these knobheads. I'm going to suffer the guilt of my hypocrisy and hope each and every one of them spontaneously explodes. They add not a jot to society. In thought nor actions

Don't worry oscar they have allies in europe.

YouTube - Saga - European dream

Not as good as ABBA IMO.

Then there's these guys. Wonder what they will do if the act of succession gets changed to allow catholics to sit on the throne.

YouTube - Grand Orange Lodge of England Parade in London - Part Two

Let's stir up all the old hatreds we've been peaceful for far too long. I hear they've banned morris dancing - all those bells and waving hankies just a wee bit too gay nowadays?

Ironically enough I think this runs in parallel to Lon's thread on the Holocaust. How many of those fine upstanding demonstrators are Holocaust deniers. I'll hazard a guess and say just about all of them

Besides which, I understand that the police wanted to ban ALL demonstrations in Bradford around that time, including all the other fringe nutcases that drag their knuckles along to these events, not just the EDL. So they haven't been unfairly picked on. Bless their cotton socks

Your guess is as good as mine. Bet most folk in england don't even know the orange lodge exists in england. I find when you talk to them they know a lot less about their own history than they think they do assuming they think about it at all.

Many people don't think for themselves. It's all in the editing

I was refering particularly to the the clowns in the original article that Oscar posted, not the Orange Order. The Combat 13 and other fine upstanding intellectuals of the English Defence League, who's vocabulary is limited to a few grunts and gestures. They are the ones who would generally be assumed to be Holocaust deniers

I realise you were, I just didn't express myself terribly well - I should have split the paragraph. I find that many who join these band wagons often don't know their own history or have a weird view of it. There was a lot of anti-polish sentiment for instance stirred up by the usual culprits. The area I live in now has a lot of 2nd and 3rd generation poles living here, children of soldiers that couldn't go home after ww2. It was a shock for some of the schoolkids to realise it wasn't just the kid with the funny accent they were picking on that was polish. They hadn't thought but they got it at home and off the TV. My wif'es a teacher - a moslem kid was asked - in all serious - whether they were a catholic or a protestant muslim.

I think it's a mistake to dismiss it all simply as racism though. We're a very violent society underneath that soft, placid, and tolerant exterior. The danger is if we allow seperate faith scools and the like it won't be very long before all that suppressed bigotry gets a chance to flourish and I would give it a generation before it becomes a serious problem. EDL and the like are a warning of where it could all go.

If you look at Northern ireland Catholic and protestant children are still seperated and learn the hatred at their mother's tit as it were. It's teenagers and the like that keep it all alive.

Must admit I didn't realise there were active orange lodges in England as well, it's not something you hear about. In scotland rather than blackshirts pre ww2 it was the orange lodge that became the outlet for the hatred and discontent. It's only with hindsight you realise that was a manifestation of the same kind of thing.

I very much agree. I'm very much against faith schools as well but sadly because very often they are very succesful and attain good results, parents are finding ways to get thier kids admitted to them. Thats obviously as much to do with our educational system as a whole rather than the success of a few faith based schools.

I get very confused with us in the UK. I cant figure whether we are extremely racist or extremely tolerant. I see so much of both

I dont get this overtly nationalistic attitude that permeates society. I work with a man who just hates everything that isnt "Anglo-Saxon" I say that because that is what he thinks he is. Not of Norman, Viking, Danish, Roman (et al) extraction. History is something he can pick and choose from to suit his strange ideals and what he thinks his "identity" is. He's appalled when I remind him that his forename and surname are both Irish ( apparantly Shawn is spelt the English way....LOL) and thinks I am not patriotic because I am an Athiest. That one made me laugh out very loud. Sadly this attitude isnt rare

In that case he must also dislike the scots, welsh and irish, most of the north of england and be against the royal family, which is a bit awkward since the queen is also head of the church of england. Sounds like he doesn't know his own family history never mind anyone else's.
