I'd take common sense over book smarts anyday! Having book smarts does you no good if you don't have the common sense to apply it.
I probably posted that in an ambien trance-soryy

Good point! But when you consider book smart Bill Gates, he can hire as many common sense people he desires to do his bidding. :guitarist

Book smart. I love books. With enough knowledge, you can deduce common sense.

I have to go with common sense...and social appropriateness. I have some students who can spew facts that would blow your mind. However, they have a total duck fit if they forget their lunch money. They have NO IDEA what to do. You can't have a melt down (and scream "I'm getting electrocuted!!!!") every time you forget your lunch money. You have to have a bit of common sense. Book smarts won't do it all.

common sense is great but unfortunatly they only pay for book sense in the form of a degree...wether you have an education to go with it or not.

Just that they are far outnumbered by the rich, degreed people. It's a rare bird these days that can "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" and succeed without an education.

of course not hot, just making a broad generalization.

We have a state university in my hometown and the editor of our local paper ( a graduate of it) is always lamenting it as a diploma mill.

People with degrees always start out at higher wages than ones without degrees and this may be right but I, in my personal life, am seeing more and more people with college degrees but no college education to go with it, They still make bigger money than those who have no degree irreguardless of which is more educated aka possessing the common sence to master the skills of a job..

Please don't make me qualify this to the extent it should be, my typing skills are just not up to it. :D

No need, I get it. You are saying that is just a fact of reality that a college degree, regardless of the actually amount the person learned in college) gets more money in the real world. Not fair, but true.

Well it is hard to decide, in reality you will need both to be successful in life. Pretty much everyone else has said common sense, so just to be controversial, I say book smarts :) lol
