Where to go in Asia??

Hello all,

I am planning for a trip to Asia sometime next month, and was wondering which countries there would be a good place to see Asia's heritage and culture.

Preferably, I would like to be away from most tourist attractions in the suggested country, and hopefully someone can tell me what to expect there.
