All Canadians,
There is an email petition going around which is like an email chain, (and I don’t really like those), so I am going to post it here.
It is a great idea, and the object is to get the famous and fantastic Tim Horton’s to provide free coffee to Canadian soldiers serving in Afghanistan.
Below is the note as it reads, but I say skip the list part and email Tim Horton’s directly.
customer_service@timhortons.com
Copy of email:
Why do our troops in Afghanistan have to buy a cup of coffee??? It should be on the house.
It's time to start a petition to the great Canadian Institution of Tim Horton's.
Now that they are located in Kandahar , our troops can introduce the coalition to a Double Double. I would like to be able to BUY a 'soldier' a well deserved Canadian Maple and an Ice Cap. Let's get it going Timmies, it's time to buy a soldier a coffee. So here it is...a petition for a Canada Wide 'Buy a Soldier A Coffee Day'. How 'bout making it Nov 12, the day after Remembrance Day?? Can you imagine how many people would drop the money for a 'Coffee for a Soldier' into a box at all the Horton's outlets? It would probably rival Horton's Summer Camp Fund!
When this petition gets to about 300 send it to the email address..

meh... the whole production smells like a viral marketing scheme.
Tim Horton's coffee is awful. People profess to like it, but dumping two creams (or more) and two sugars (or more) makes it palatable to much of the masses.
In truth, it's akin to battery acid. I drink it black... completely unadorned. You can taste the cheap beans when they cannot hide behind lactose and sucrose.
Instead of popping loonies and toonies into a collection box at one of the many bland and ugly Tim Horton outlets, I'll give my money to the Canadian Legion's Poppy Fund, where it will help our veterans and their families, rather than filling the coffers of a multinational megacorporation that trades on empty calories and phony nationalism.

Free coffee for Canadian Soldiers in Afgan
Dedicated to Tim Horton's:
(slowly, with feeding)
Far across the ocean,
Far across the sea,
A faithful jelly doughnut
Is waiting just for me.
Its sugar shines with longing,
Its jelly glows with tears;
My doughnut has been waiting there
For twenty-seven years.
O faithful jelly doughnut,
I beg you don't despair!
My teeth are here in Dublin, but
My heart is with you there.
And I will cross the ocean,
And I will cross the sea,
And I will crush you to my lips.
And make you one with me.

Unfortunately, most web petitions don't work because they are impossible to control once released and continue to circulate long after their purpose is no longer valid.
However, GOOD NEWS ...
... there has been a program in place for almost two years through THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION that tries to provide a free coffee and donut to every Canadian serving on the Kandahar base every week. The Timmie's on the base in Kandahar is actually franchised to the Canadian Forces and profits are used for the benefit of the troops stationed there. Tim Horton's has already been very generous through this program. Details of the program and how you can help out are available on the Legion's national website (legion.ca) as Bulletin Board item 09-006 - ( /BB_09/09-006.htm ) - Sorry, I am not allowed to post proper URLs on this forum yet.

By the way, in case you were suspicious, I am not associated with Tim Hortons, but I am a Legion member.
