Southern Road Trip

Post by Patsy Warnick »

Our route was Historic Route 66 - first stop Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Second stop was Joplin, Missouri.

Third stop was our friends house in the Ozarks, Missouri.

Lake of the Ozarks - beautiful area with quaint towns & a huge lake. There's alot of "Good 'Ole Boy's", driving a truck - suspenders half on - few teeth, and go out daily to kill their dinner..

Fourth stop Memphis Tennessee - Graceland was a must see. Famous Beale St. was a great time - Home of the Blues and every place/ corner had a muscian +

playing, very cool..

Southern Question - ever heard of this????

While in Missouri I was talking to others about going to Memphis..

They said - Be careful your a " Mighty Whitey " ..!!! ever heard of this..?

Why I was a Mighty Whitey - I'm white - pretty - blonde - and I have all my teeth.

Hey I was in the Ozarks - there's a town called Booneville ok...

Booneville had a great Casino by the way..

Trip was Aug. 27 to Sept. 10th, since we bought a new car, I call this a

Test Drive..:-:wah:

Oh, Louisiana was interesting - I think Nomad was there Under Cover..??

Fun Trip

Goddess is right

I clung to my husband like Velcro

I don't think "they " had ever seen a blpnde with all her teeth.

While talking to this family prior arriving in TN - they really did

scare me - their son said " Maam, don't go out at night" & be careful...

he was right..

Sounds like a great trip Patsy. I've always wanted to visit Santa Fe. I've been to the Ozarks a bunch, I have family there... some missing teeth, no overalls tho really mostly too short, shorts for men to be wearing :wah:

I can assume with almost 100% certainty that the mighty whitey comment was made because you are white. Statistically speaking it is around 62% black according to a site I just googled for an approximate figure but being a former citizen of 'my Memphis' ... I would tend to believe it's much higher now. Most white folk have moved to Harbortown and Colllierville. I said white folk lol.

Memphis is a great city tho. Chocked full of history greats like Elvis and Dr. King. I miss it greatly :( and in more than one sense of the word. The crime rates there are just insane now and I could never imagine raising my child there.

AlmostFamous

You are so a Goddess

Very Historic area we went to Union Ave area - Sun Records

Martin Luther King Assonation Corner. loved it.. Jazz

The reason they said Mighty Whitey & I was scared was the crime rate..

although - I heard more gun shots in Missouri - Ozarks Mtns.

and the MEN - they did scare me there too..

I thought a man holding a club would pull me back home by my hair and say

Look Pa - I brought you this instead of Possum...

No insult - I love traveling & taking in what ever I run across during a trip.

Wonderful RD Trip

Oh, Odie,,, I taped the Important stuff....:wah:

Tennessee & Louisiana is very carefree for a type of living - or I should say relaxed.

TN - Beale St. - open venders selling beer for your walk. & party town..

Louisiana - French Quarters - just like Paris. loved it.

except this was Labor Day weekend on Boubon St., it was the Southern

Decadence Festival... Gay Fest

I'd never seen so many Handsome men - these men were Brad Pit/Elvis good looking and were Gay. Thousands of Gay Men..

and the Bars had those MEN dancing on the bar NUDE - dancing with only a scarf..!!!!

what a show on Bourbon Street... I'll never forget this Road Test..!!!

And all is true with the Economy because there was very

little traffic on the roads.. Nothing nerve racking as some road

trips can be..

roads were empty - smooth ride..

fun time - interesting places

You have to consider the entire experience. North Platte is the carrot in front of the stick. Lincoln is the real prize.

I love Santa Fe!! One of the most stylish places I've ever been.

Patsy - I don't know how much the French Quarter of Nawlins has changed since Katrina, but I loved it. Didn't think it was at all Parisian though? Can you be more specific??? Cafe creme and beignets, and Joanie on the Pony, but like Paris???

As fer the Ozarks. I've camped out in them often, in Missouri. Fantastic. Never been et by a black bar yet, or a feral possum either. Have run into some interesting folks there, but nothing too much out of Deliverance. Did you get into the Smokey Mountains???? grin.

Anyway, what a wonderful road trip. You've given me mega itchy feet. It's way too long since I've been over the Pond in that direction... gosh, must be 18 months, nearly..... sad face emoticon.. And Route 66!! I've driven the bit from Chicago to Albuquerque but no further.. YET. Made me reread Mr Kerouac's 'On the Road'.

PS... You saw naked men dancing in Louisiana??? They could get bit by a gator???
