One reason never to go on The Jeremy Kyle Show

The Jeremy Kyle Show was in the dock again last night after a couple's appearance on the programme led to a horrific domestic assault.

Rebecca Langley was left with serious facial injuries after the attack by her boyfriend over allegations that she cheated on him.

As he jailed 26-year-old Jamie Juste for the attack, Judge Sean Enright condemned the programme for exploiting 'foolish and gullible' people for entertainment.

The couple had taken part in the ITV1 show - previously branded a 'human form of bear-baiting' - to address suspicions that Miss Langley had been unfaithful during a break in their relationship.

During the programme, which invites couples to air their private grievances and attracts more than a million viewers, Miss Langley was questioned in a segment entitled 'Can lie detector tests save our family?'.

Craig McDougall, prosecuting, said: 'Mr Juste was sitting right next to her when the results of the test were confirmed by Jeremy Kyle, who stated, "You lied". His reaction was visible and it became a rather emotional situation.'

Far from resolving the issue, their appearance on the show caused further friction between the couple, the court was told.

The row over her alleged infidelity erupted again as they watched the programme together at their home in Bretton, Peterborough, when it was broadcast several weeks later.

Juste, who had been drinking and taking drugs, again accused his partner of being unfaithful to him, but Miss Langley denied it.

'I kept saying no but he was screaming back at me, over and over,' she said. Juste punched and kicked his 4ft 10in partner repeatedly in the face and body and also bit her on the shoulder.

He left her with a severely swollen eye, a suspected broken nose and horrendous bruising to her face and body. At Peterborough Crown Court, Juste was jailed for two years after admitting causing grievous bodily harm.

Enlarge Referring to the sentence, Judge Enright told him: 'It would have been higher still but for the involvement of the television show, which seems to have fed your insecurities.' He accused the Jeremy Kyle Show of persuading 'foolish and gullible people' to have their infidelities and insecurities laid bare for the entertainment of the public.

Judge Enright said: 'I have not seen this show, which I believe is classified as light entertainment, but there is plainly an element of cruelty and exploitation in what takes place.

'They (the couple) must have both suffered considerable mortification and embarrassment.' The couple split up after the assault. Yesterday, Miss Langley said: 'It's been a really hard time and it's still very raw.'

Last night the show's producers rejected Judge Enright's claims.

Grant Cunningham, a spokesman for ITV, said the safety of guests was of 'paramount importance' and claimed they were given advice and counselling after appearing.

He added: 'With respect to the judge, we are surprised at his remarks given that he pointed out that he has not seen our programme and we absolutely refute the notion that it involves cruelty and exploitation.

'The programme provides an opportunity for people to resolve pre-existing disputes and personal issues on neutral territory, with the offer of counselling, mediation and support, which is on-going following their appearances.

'There have been numerous positive outcomes from this, including parties who have resolved complex and long-standing personal problems.'

These shows don't interest me. Nor do shows like Big Brother and Celebrity Island, etc.

I would never say that any form of abuse was justifiable, just amazed that she went on a show knowing she was having a lie detector test.

Do you think that they are sucked into going on there for entertainment value? Most who appear on the show seem pretty un-intelligent, so are they being used?

Your up early !!!!!

Thanks, I shall be driving like a granny

Well, maybe not.. :wah:

On Thursday my brother in law hit a pair of ladders on the M6, they were lying across the lane and he had no option but to run over them as he was doing 90mph!

A wise decision really as many people would have swerved to avoid them and caused a pile-up.

Both his back tyres blew and it knackered his exhaust but at least He was fine.

There were at least 20 cars on the hard shoulder inspecting their cars.

Off topic but hey-ho. :D

That is exactly why i hate motorways although Mr o assures me they are the safest roads in the country. Ladders !!!! Thank god it wasn't serious. Mr O drove into a discarded car dog guard lying in the road recently. Wonder where the dog was? :wah:
